Jawan Opening Day Box Office: Here's how the Atlee's Bollywood debut minted in Tamil Nadu!

Shah Rukh Khan, the king of Bollywood, has made a smashing entry into the Tamil film industry with his latest action thriller Jawan. The film, directed by Atlee, who is known for his blockbuster hits like Theri, Mersal and Bigil, was released on over 400 screens in Tamil Nadu on September 7, 2023.

The film has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, who have praised Shah Rukh Khan’s performance, Atlee’s direction, Anirudh Ravichander’s music and G. K. Vishnu’s cinematography. According to the latest report, Jawan has grossed over Rs 12 crores in Tamil Nadu on day 1, and it’s a record number for a Hindi film in Tamil Nadu on the opening day. Trade reports indicate that Alee's Hindi debut earned a staggering Rs 75 crore in India and surpassed Rs 129 crore worldwide at the box office.

The film has also performed well in other states and overseas markets, making it one of the biggest openers of the year. Jawan is expected to continue its winning streak at the box office in the coming days, as it faces no major competition from other releases.

Jawan is a story of a patriotic soldier who goes undercover to expose a terrorist plot that threatens the nation. Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of Major Ajay Singh Rathore, who leads a team of elite commandos to foil the evil plans of the antagonist played by Vijay Sethupathi. The film also features Nayanthara as the female lead.

The film also has an ensemble cast of actors like Deepika Padukone as Azad’s mother Aishwarya Rathore (in a special appearance), Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover, Riddhi Dogra, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak, Lehar Khan,  Aaliyah Qureishi and others in supporting roles.

The film is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment. The film’s soundtrack and background score are composed by Anirudh Ravichander, who collaborates with Atlee for the fourth time after Theri, Mersal and Bigil. The film’s cinematography is done by G. K. Vishnu and editing by Ruben.
