Kalki 2898 AD: Makers unveil the release date of Prabhas's next sci-fi epic actioner!

Fans to prepare to witness the most epic cinematic event of the year, as Kalki 2898 AD hits the screens worldwide on May 9. The Indian fantasy sci-fi dystopian film, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani, promises to take on a thrilling journey through time and space, as they fight to save the world from a cosmic threat. The film, directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, is a visionary masterpiece that blends mythology, history, and science fiction in a unique way. 

The film’s poster, which was unveiled along with the release date, shows Prabhas in a stunning warrior costume, holding a sword and a shield, with a fierce expression on his face. He is surrounded by an apocalyptic environment, indicating the intensity of the war he is about to wage. The poster also reveals the film’s tagline: The story that ended 6000 years ago. Begins May9th, 2024”.

The film has been generating a lot of buzz ever since it was announced and was even teased at the San Diego Comic-Con last year, where it received a standing ovation from the audience. The film’s trailer, which is expected to release soon. The film’s producer, C. Ashwini Dutt, said that the film is a landmark project for Vyjayanthi Movies, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

He said, "From the iconic ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’ to the award-winning ‘Mahanati’ and ‘Maharshi,’ this date has etched its place in our history. Now, the release of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ featuring gifted artists like Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone marks a special moment for us and aligns with the banner’s milestone 50th year, making it even more meaningful as we continue our journey at Vyjayanthi Movies.”

 

The title suggests that the film is based on the Hindu mythology of Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is prophesied to end the Kali Yuga and usher in a new era of peace and harmony. The first glimpse of the film, which was unveiled by Prabhas and Kamal Haasan at the event, shows a dystopian world in the year 2898, where humanity is oppressed by a dark and powerful regime.

The film, which is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies on a massive budget of Rs 600 crores, also features  Pasupathy, Saswata Chatterjee and others in an important role. The film is simultaneously shot in Telugu and Hindi and will be dubbed in other languages as well. The film has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.
