Karthik Subburaj's Jigarthanda Double X is coming to OTT! Here's when and where to watch the period actioner

The latest sensation in Tamil cinema, ‘Jigarthanda Double X’, is all set to stream on OTT. The film, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, is a spiritual sequel to his 2014 cult classic ‘Jigarthanda’, which explored the dark and twisted world of a gangster and filmmaker. The sequel, which stars Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah in the lead roles, had received rave reviews from critics and audiences.

Now the film’s OTT premiere on Netflix is expected to release on 8th December 2023. Netflix India South took to X, shared the awaiting update, writing, "Roll-camera-action!Indha Pandyaa Blockbuster paaka ellarum vaanga!  Jigarthanda DoubleX is coming to Netflix on 8 December in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi! Coming soon in English.".

The film also boasts of a stellar supporting cast, including Nimisha Sajayan, Naveen Chandra, Sathyan, Aravind Akash, Ilavarasu, and Bava Chelladurai. The film’s technical team, comprising of composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Tirru, and editor Shafique Mohamed Ali, have done a splendid job in creating a cinematic masterpiece that pays homage to the original, while also offering something new and fresh.

The film, which was released in theatres on November 10, has been a huge hit at the box office, collecting over 100 crores in its first week. The film has also been praised for its bold and innovative storytelling, and for breaking the stereotypes of the gangster genre. The film has been dubbed in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, and will soon be available in English as well. 

The period gangster drama unfolds the tale of Pandiyan, an ambitious gangster in Madurai with dreams of becoming the first dark-skinned actor in Tamil cinema To achieve this unconventional dream, Pandiyan enlists the help of Ray Dasan, played by SJ Suryah, a former assistant director to Satyajit Ray, eager to make his directorial debut. However, the plot thickens as Pandiyan finds himself hunted by rivals, leading to a cascade of complications for the film's production.
