From Kashmir files to Kantara... Here's the complete winner list of the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards 2023!

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country's highest honour in the film industry, was presented last night in Mumbai on 20th February. The Directorate of Film Festivals, an authority under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, awards the prize annually at the National Film Awards ceremony. The Kashmir Files took home top honours at the film festival, and its star, Anupam Kher, was named the year's most adaptable actor, and for the Most Promising actor award, Kantara's Rishab Shetty bagged the honor.

Vivek Agnihotri took to his Twitter handle and proudly announced the big historic win. He penned, "ANNOUNCEMENT: #TheKashmirFiles wins the ‘Best Film’ award at #DadaSahebPhalkeAwards2023. "This award is dedicated to all the victims of terrorism and to all the people of India for your blessings" The film depicts a fictitious narrative revolving around the 1990s exodus of Hindu Kashmiris from Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The film was made on a budget of around 20 crores and grossed around 340 crores at the box office. Starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi, the film was a huge success. Tej Narayan Agarwal, Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi, and Vivek Agnihotri served as the film's producers. The film Kashmir files was released in theatres on 11 March 2022.

Rishab Shetty, the film's writer, director, and star, was given the honour for Most Promising Actor category. The Sandalwood actor was noted for his portrayal of Kambala Champion, whose story is a moving ode to the traditions of the Karnataka state. Taking to Twitter he shared a long grattitude note which reads, "Honoured to add feathers this cap. I cannot express my gratitude for bestowing the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award Upon Me. I am grateful to Hombale Films and Vijay Kirgandur sir for trusting me and giving me the opportunity. I cannot wait to make more and better films together,"

"This would have been impossible without out Kantara team and technicians who supported this small dream of mine, and the pillar of my life Pragathi Shetty. I dedicate this award to our Daiva Nartakaru, People of Karnataka, Power star Puneeth Rajkumar and Legendary Bhagavan sir." the note added.

Released in theatres on September 30, 2022, Kantara received rave reviews upon its debut. This film, produced by KGF fame Hombale Films, features Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda, and Pramod Shetty. Overall, the film was a commercial and critical success, earning more than Rs 400 crore around the world.

Other than these, Alia Bhatt accepted the Best Actor for 'Brahmastra' award on behalf of her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, and the Best Actress award for 'Gangubai Kathiawadi,' for which she won an award herself. Varun Dhawan won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor for his performance in "Bhediya." The award for Television Series of the Year went to 'Anupamaa,' a show starring Rupali Ganguly.

In honour of her "Outstanding Contribution in the Film Industry," veteran actor Rekha was honoured. At the event, she wore a golden saree and was seen chatting with Alia, who was draped in a white one. They made out in front of the paparazzi and smiled for the cameras which is now getting the viral  attention. For the "Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry," Hariharan, a well-known singer and musician, was honoured.
