Kerala is the best governed state in India, this BJP ruling state is worst! Check where TN stands

Public Affairs Centre, which is the Bangalore based non-profit organization, has released a report on Friday on the best and worst governed states and Union Territories in India. The not for profit group is headed by former Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman K Kasturirangan and the report had highlighted that the states have been ranked on governance performance based on a composite index in the context of sustainable development. 

The report was published in the Public Affairs Index-2020 released by the group in Bangalore on Friday and as per the report, Kerala has been named as the best-governed state in the country while Tamil Nadu has been ranked second in the category of the best-governed states. 

According to the report released, four southern states -Kerala (1.388 PAI- Public Affairs Index point), Tamil Nadu (0.912 PAI point), Andhra Pradesh (0.531 PAI point), Karnataka (0.468 PAI point) were ranked in the first four ranks respectively in the category of the large states under the grounds of governance. 

On the other side, the report had named Uttar Pradesh as the worst governed state in India and Yogi Adityanath led government has been at the bottom of the ranking after it had scored negative points. While Uttar Pradesh is at the bottom, the states like Odisha and Bihar were ahead of Uttar Pradesh under the category of worst governed large states. 

Uttar Pradesh has got (-1.461 PAI point) while Odisha and Bihar got (-1.201 PAI point) and (-1.158 PAI point) respectively. According to the Public Affairs Centre, governance performance is analyzed in the context of sustainable development defined by three pillars of equity, growth, and sustainability. After releasing the report, Kasturirangan said, "the evidence that PAI 2020 generates and the insights that it provides must compel us to reflect on the economic and social transition that is underway in India".

Besides the large states, PAC had also ranked the small states and in the category of small states, Goa ranked first for best governance with 1.745 points followed by Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh with 0.797 points and 0.725 points respectively. The worst governing states under the category are Manipur (-0.363), Delhi (-0.289), and Uttarkhand (-0.277). 

Under the category of the Union Territory, Chandigarh had ranked as the best governed UT in the country with 1.05 PAI points followed by Puducherry (0.52) and Lakshadweep (0.003). On the worst governed UTs, Dadar and Nagar Haveli (-0.69), Jammu and Kashmir with (-0.50), and Andaman and the Nicobar Islands with (-0.30) have been declared as the worst governed Union Territories.
