At least six dead and dozens injured in boiler blast at NLC! Here's the update

In a shocking incident of the boiler blast at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) in Tamil Nadu, the government company has reported that it has lost at least six employees as the sequel of the blast while 12 others have been severely injured and admitted at the hospitals for further treatments.

According to the reports close to the developments, the boiler blast has happened around 10 am on Wednesday in the second thermal power plant of the unit. The visuals from the plant shown the eruption of smoke, which exemplified the impact of the blast. After the explosion, the NLC's fire fighting teams had rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations.

The reports say that the rescue teams from the Cuddalore district had also rushed to the spot to evacuate the employees. Of those 17 injured, 12 have been taken to the private hospital in Chennai while the rest five have been getting treated at the hospital in the NLC premises. Although the cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained, it was said that the boiler could have exploded due to the high pressure.

Superintendent of Police Cuddalore district had issued the conformity that six employees have died and 17 have been injured. The exploded boiler plant is in stage 2 of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation. The blast had occurred when the employees had resumed their operations on Wednesday morning and two employees died at the spot.

The rescue operations have been deployed to rescue the employees who were trapped due to the mishap and further investigation is underway. Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to Twitter and said he has anguished to learn about the loss of lives due to the blast at Neyveli power plant in Tamil Nadu. The Home Minister stated that he has spoken to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and assured all possible help.

Amit Shah added that the CISF has been on the spot to assist the relief work. According to the reports, this is the second boiler blast in the NLC that happened in the last three months in the second phase of the plant. In the earlier blast that occurred on May 7, five people have died.

 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami took to Twitter and placed his condolences to the families of the deceased employees who died on Wednesday. According to the latest reports, the Tamil Nadu government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each for the employees who sustained severe injuries and Rs 50,000 each for the employees who sustained mild injuries in the boiler blast.
