'Let's break our silence to save environment' - Actor Suriya comes in with Karthi against EIA 2020!

The amendment of the 'Environment Impact Assessment 2020' (EIA) proposed by the Modi-led BJP government, amid combating the COVID-19 spread, has been drawing major flak and outrage across the nation as the activists, environmentalists, and the stakeholders have strongly been condemning the amendment which feared to go against the environment by posing a threat and causing more damages for the nation's biodiversity and the livelihoods of people.

The activists in Tamil Nadu has been showing strong resentments against the Center, which apparently had found time to propose such amendment in the midst of battling the global pandemic. Along with the activists, well-known celebrities have now joined to voice against the amendment which further deepened the criticisms against the Central government to take back the amendment, which the activists claimed that it undermines democracy.

Actor Karthi has raised his voice and concerns against the amendment on Tuesday, which sparked major attention across social media. In his message that he tweeted, Karthi said that the proposed changes to the EIA draft 2020 have sparked several concerns in the minds of people. In his statement, the actor stated that 'this endeavor will be seen as an exercise to systematically dismantle a promising future of our generations and this should not be heralded by the government of our nation which was elected democratically'.

Karthi further questioned how an act or law can be considered fair if it thwarts the voice and concerns of the very common man such law serves to protect? He further highlighted that draft has been published in Hindi and English which had made millions of Indians not to read and understand the issue as these people only know their native languages. Actor Karthi urged the people to actively seek information about the proposed amendment and place their comments to the Central government.

Karthi's voice has been the first voice in the Tamil Cinema Industry against the amendment and his statement, that started by quoting the couplets of Thirukural, was released by Uzhavan Foundation, the foundation that was founded by him. After the actor's statement has gone through debate, Karthi's elder brother and reputed actor Suriya has come along with Karthi to press and reiterate their voices against the amendment.

By taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Actor Suriya has responded on Karthi's statement and said, 'Unspoken silence is more dangerous than spoken words. Let's break our silence to save our environment'. Actor Suriya's and his brother Karthi's voices have come at a high time when Tamil Nadu has been demanding the center to repeal the amendment.

Suriya has been running 'Agaram' foundation which helps the backward and unable students to get the education and he has been one of the vocal critics of the NEET examination. Apart from the cinema, the duo has been voicing against the measures of the government that go against the people.

EIA 2020 has been criticized by the activists and environmentalists that the amendment, if enacted, would go in favor of industries and the amendment would pave the way for the industries to implement and expand the mega and industrial projects without the opinion of people and without going through the process of producing the environment impact assessment. The activists fear that this amendment will leniently let in the coal, oil, and other major industries to implement and expand their projects that would further harm the environment and livelihoods of people.

The Central government has claimed that the new amendment would develop India's industrial corridors and the activists are urging people to strongly place their opinions and voices against the amendment as the Central government has invited people's opinion till August 11, 2020.
