Maamannan, the latest film by acclaimed director Mari Selvaraj, has been receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film, which deals with social injustice and caste oppression, features a stellar star cast of Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh and Fahadh Faasil. The film also marks the last acting venture of Udhayanidhi Stalin, who has decided to quit cinema and focus on his political career.

One of the biggest admirers of the film is none other than Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who watched the film in a special screening arranged by the makers. Mari Selvaraj took to social media and shared a few clicks with the Chief Minister and wrote about his reaction to Maamannan. He wrote in Tamil, which is loosely translated, "We extend our utmost respect and heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Chief Minister, Thiru @mkStalin, for celebrated the film grand manner."

Another fan of the film is actor Dhanush, who collaborated with Mari Selvaraj for his previous blockbuster Karnan, earlier praised the film on Twitter and called it emotion. “Maamannan by Mari selvaraj is an emotion. A big hug to you Mari. Vadivelu sir and Udhayanidhi Stalin have delivered a very convincing performance. Great work from Fahadh and Keerthy Suresh. Theatres are gonna erupt for the interval block,” he wrote. He also lauded the music by AR Rahman, who composed the songs for the film.

The film showcases the struggle of a father (Vadivelu) and his son (Udhayanidhi Stalin). They face resistance from a powerful landlord (Fahadh Faasil) who tries to crush their dreams. Udhayanidhi plays Athiveeran, a man who collects evidence to expose the corruption and injustice of the antagonist, played by Fahadh Faasil.

Vadivelu plays the titular role, Mamannan who also supports Athiveeran in his mission. Keerthy Suresh plays Samba Lal, Athiveeran’s companion,  and a communist. The music is composed by none other than A.R. Rahman, who has collaborated with Mari Selvaraj for the first time.
