Madras HC had nullified the elections of Nadigar Sangam!

The Madras High Court has, on Friday, declared the recently held elections of Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artists Association) as invalid and directed to host a fresh election within three months and through issuing the final verdict, the state's top judicial body had seemingly brought the months-long controversy and the real words of war on the grounds of reel actors to an end.

In its directive, the High court bench headed by Justice Kalyanasundaram had named retired justice of the High Court Gokul Dass as the election officer under whom the fresh election must take place within three months. The verdict has come after the court was hearing dozens of pleas tabled by the members of the association by stating that the elections had hosted a series of irregularities in preparing the voters list.

By ordering the Actors body to roll out the fresh elections, the High court bench had also dismissed the petitions filed by Actors Vishal, Karthi, and Nassar against the state government's order of appointing a special officer as an in charge of the association until the leadership posts are filled through proper elections.

The reports say that the special officer Geetha has been awarded a clear go by the High court to carry out her office of overseeing and executing the operations of the Nadigar Sangam until the results of the elections are announced.

In June 2019, the Nadigar Sangam went for its elections where rivals had installed separate camps with their supporters to take over the association. The election had witnessed two rival camps - 'Pandavar Ani'- which is led by Nassar while veteran actor Bhagyaraj had headed the rival camp 'Sankaradas Ani'.
