Major political elevation in TN: When Anbumani Ramadoss will become the PMK President?

Tamil Nadu is gearing up to witness a major political elevation as PMK's youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss is all set to become the party's new president, which will arm him to his mission of putting the party in reign in the next assembly polls in the state. Amid purchasing the tag of upholding dynasty politics, the party has set a clear route to welcome the new chief.

While Anbumani would be elevated as the party's president, the incumbent chief GK Mani will be conferred with a key post. According to reports, Anbumani Ramadoss will most likely get appointed as the PMK President in the special executive committee meeting of the party that will be held on Saturday - May 28. The arrangements have been made for the transition where GK Mani will relinquish the post that he has been holding for over two decades.

DT Next has quoted the source saying that the party president GK Mani had recently completed 25 years in the post and a grand function was held to honour him in Chennai. Mani has felt that it is time for the next generation to take over the leadership following which the party has decided to elevate Anbumani Ramadoss as the new president. Currently, Anbumani has also been serving as the Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu.

Anbumani had also served as the Union Health Minister and he has been active in politics for the last 25 years. The party believes that Anbumani would be accepted as the PMK president by the cadres. The sources have said that the people will accept Anbumani as a well informed and well-read person and it's time for Anbumani to take over the leadership.

Anbumani would be elevated to prepare the party for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the 2026 assembly elections. Anbumani's elevation has been discussed at the party for the past several months. However, the party's founder Ramadoss was hesitant to give his nod to replace GK Mani, who was one of the former's trusted associates in the party. As Mani is also enjoying a good relationship with senior party leaders and with the leaders of various parties, his is the role of leading the party in seat sharing and alliance talks, which has made Ramadoss reluctant to keep Mani outside the leadership unit.

It has also been reported that Anbumani too was not keen on a transformation in the party. However, he had later felt that he could transform the party with fresh energy after he takes up the role. After seeing Anbumani's tours and meetings with the party cadres, Ramadoss had agreed to elevate his son as the PMK's President. On the other hand, Ramadoss has also decided to create a new post for GK Mani.

It must be noted that PMK has organized a grand felicitation on May 24 in Chennai for GK Mani for completing 25 years as the party's president. In an official statement to the party cadres, Ramadoss has complimented GK Mani for his party's work during tough and bad times. Ramadoss had recalled that he had proposed the name of GK Mani in 1998 for the president's spot and since then the latter has been elected for the post twelve times.
