Major shock to EPS...Why this former ADMK Minister is planning to join BJP?

Levying a major shock to the ADMK leadership amid the ongoing intra-party crisis and tussles, the former ADMK Minister is moving close to the shores of BJP in search of his political future. Former Minister KT Rajenthra Balaji, a controversial political figure in Tamil Nadu, is now mulling to join the Central ruling party, which observes alliance in his current one. The speculations were rife through his sudden trip to Delhi.

According to reports, Rajenthra Balaji, who served as the Minister for Milk and Dairy Development of Tamil Nadu in the second term of the previous ADMK regime, had boarded a flight to Delhi on Sunday, leaving several anticipations over his trip as it has been reported that the ADMK leadership didn't aware of his Delhi outreach. His Delhi trip has come days after the ADMK leaders Edappadi Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam had met Prime Minister Modi in the capital.

Stirring a political furore in Tamil Nadu, Rajenthra Balaji's Delhi trip was unfolded when he has been surfaced with several allegations and corruption charges. He was a staunch supporter of Prime Minister Modi and it was apparent when he publicly called the latter their 'Daddy' in an event that he addressed. It was evident that he has given his full backing to the BJP and invited controversies through his speeches that the ADMK is fully dependent on the BJP.

Though he was an active member in the ADMK, he went on to claim that no one can threaten them (ADMK leaders) until Modi is there. In 2020, the ADMK leadership had removed him from the post of party's Virudhunagar district secretary for his speech against minority communities and for breaching the party's principles. However, there was no end to his controversies and in the 2021 state assembly polls, he contested from the Rajapalayam constituency in Virudhunagar, switching out of his home turf Sivakasi.

Turning to be an apparent BJP loyalist, Rajenthra Balaji had lost his elections to DMK candidate Thangapandian and following the debacle, he was not actively seen in politics and stayed off from speaking about the party matters in public places. While his debacle had shaken his political future on one side, the ruling DMK prepared to give more trouble to him by expediting the cases of corruption charges against him. A petition was filed against him when he was serving as the minister by alleging that he had amassed properties beyond his income.

The petition is been heard by the Madras High Court and the matter will again come to the hearing on August 19. To lock him, the DMK government has been collecting the evidence related to his disappropriate assets and along with this case, the DMK government has also been delving into the corruption in Aavin, the state-run dairy firm, when he was serving as the Dairy minister. As he has been getting surrounded by the cases, the reports say that he had lamented to the ADMK leadership.

However, the ADMK leaders had given no assurance to stand with him. Rajenthra Balaji's political defeat and the strangulating corruptions cases with no support from the ADMK had made him mull to join the Central ruling party. He didn't take part in the party-related events recently and was strongly considering joining the BJP for his political future, given that he had shown staunch support to Modi and the saffron camp. After days of being in consideration, he had on Sunday taken a flight to Delhi to unfold the biggest political drama since ADMK's defeat that would shock Edappadi Palaniswami and O Pannerselvam.

He took a flight to Delhi on Sunday at 11 am and he has planned to meet senior BJP leaders. As his Delhi trip wasn't known for the ADMK leadership, the reports predicted that he is going to join BJP anytime. According to our sources, Rajenthra Balaji is planning to meet the Prime Minister and officially join the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda, to seek shelter for his political future and to fight the legal cases. It has been expected that he may join the BJP on Monday and he eyes to have a big role in the Tamil Nadu BJP. Rajenthra Balaji had also claimed to his supporters that he has got no way other than joining BJP to save him and his political future.

It would be unprecedented if he joins BJP as he would be switching sides not towards the rival but to the party that already observes alliance with the ADMK, which means that he would be speaking in favour of ADMK and campaigning for the party until the alliance lives in the state. Even if the ADMK leaders expel him from the party for joining the BJP, they will be observing ties with him as part of the coalition. While addressing the reporters on Sunday concerning Rajenthra Balaji's joining in the BJP, Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai said that the party would welcome the former minister if he decides to join. Annamalai further claimed that several leaders and cadres are joining BJP as some of the parties are not showing them respect and independence. He vowed, "We will accept and invite anyone who joins the party with the belief of our ideology."
