Mamannan: This is what Superstar Rajinikanth has to say about the Mari Selvaraj's Political thriller!

Superstar Rajinikanth has praised the latest Tamil film Maamannan, directed by Mari Selvaraj, for its bold and powerful portrayal of caste politics and social justice. The actor took to Twitter to express his admiration for the film and its cast, which includes Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh.

Rajinikanth took to Twitter and penned, “A wonderful work by Mari Selvaraj on emphasizing equality. My sincere appreciation to him. And my hearty congratulations to Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi and Fahadh fasil for their excellent performances,”

Udhayanidhi Stalin who responded to the Superstar's wish,  he penned, "Love and gratitude on behalf of the film crew #மாமன்னன் to Superstar @rajinikanth sir who greeted the movie  that upholds equality,  #மாமன்னன் with love."

Maamannan, which was released on June 29, 2023, is a political thriller that revolves around the conflict between an MLA from the oppressed community (Vadivelu) and a district secretary from the dominant community (Fahadh Faasil) in the same party. Udhayanidhi Stalin plays the son of Vadivelu, who is a practitioner of Adimurai, an ancient martial art form. Keerthy Suresh plays his love interest.

The film has received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, who have praised the performances, the music by A.R. Rahman, and the cinematography by Theni Eswar.  Maamannan is Mari Selvaraj’s third feature film after Pariyerum Perumal (2018) and Karnan (2021), both of which dealt with caste oppression and violence. The director has been hailed as one of the most promising voices in Tamil cinema for his realistic and hard-hitting depiction of social issues.

The film is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin under his banner Red Giant Movies. It is also a comeback film for Vadivelu, who was banned from the industry for five years due to a legal dispute with another producer. The actor has impressed the audience with his nuanced and mature performance as Maamannan.
