Marriage can also be made underwater: This TN couple proved it and made their wedding memorable! Watch

Bidding adieu to the aphorism of 'Marriages are made in heaven' and breaking the stereotype and tradition of marriage, a couple in Tamil Nadu had proved that marriages can be done anywhere after tieing the knot underwater. The visuals of the underwater marriage have been winning hearts and storming social media, making the wedding memorable not only for their families but beyond.

While the typical marriage halls, temples, churches, hillside, and beaches had hosted almost all the marriages, software engineers in Tamil Nadu - Chinnadurai from Tiruvannamalai and Swetha from Coimbatore had left a mark and a new venue for marriages - underwater amid the sea life. Chinnadurai and Swetha tied the knot on February 1 off the coast of the Bay of Bengal and 60 feet deep into the water.

It was a perfect underwater wedding where along with tieing knots, the couple had also exchanged garlands. Initially, the couple had stunned their friends and relatives while they distributed the wedding invitation in which they have mentioned 'underwater' in the place of the marriage venue. While Chinnadurai being a licensed scuba diver, Swetha took a short training on swimming ahead of the wedding, and they went off the coast for about 5 kilometers deep into the sea and dived from the boat to reach their venue.

The couple went off the coast from Neelankarai in the outskirts of Chennai and before leaving for the venue, they had done their initial rituals on the shore, dressed in the traditional wedding attires following which they boarded the sea car and reached the venue and tied the knot. After accomplishing their mission successfully, they released photos of their memorable wedding which have been getting widely shared on the internet.

Speaking to a news agency, groom Chinnadurai said, "I have been a licensed scuba diver for the last 12 years, and the idea of the underwater wedding came when I was discussing with my cousin, Aravind, who runs Temple Adventures. Initially, it was difficult to convince my wife, but she agreed to the underwater marriage and she had gone for training following which we were ready for our wedding. I believe this was the first underwater Hindu wedding in India".

Speaking about the adventures wedding, bride Swetha said, "I had no idea about scuba diving until this happened. But I was ready to do this as I was eager to do something unique for our wedding. As we boarded the boat, a few of our close family members were waiting for us on the shore and they were worried whether everything is alright and going fine. Only a few divers came with us underwater. We tied the knot and exchanged the garlands and took photos as well. The underwater venue was decorated with natural flowers and non-plastic items and they were removed after the wedding was over".

Putting out the reason and motive behind conducting the marriage underwater, the newly-married couple said that their motive is to create awareness to reduce pollution. They said that the ocean has become so polluted in the last few years due to more plastic and discarded items. They added that doing something unique, it would turn people's attention towards them and they can create awareness to reduce pollution. The reports say that their wedding photos are going viral and before creating awareness on pollution, they had created awareness that marriages are not only made in heaven but also underwater.
