Modi's address on the lockdown - Here's what MK Stalin hoped for!

DMK President and Tamil Nadu Opposition leader MK Stalin has reacted against Modi's address to the nation on Tuesday during which the Prime Minister has announced that the nationwide lockdown has been extended till May 3rd in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Stalin said that the people had been in the expectations over the announcements related to the relief measures and assistance. By tweeting his reaction, Stalin stated that the advisories issued by the Prime Minister could create awareness among the people. However, people aren't expecting the advice, they are expecting the relief measures and the supply of essentials.

He further asked the Prime Minister when he would make a speech of answering the questions raised by the people due to the nationwide lockdown. The DMK President noted that the announcements haven't been made by the Prime Minister in his earlier addresses. He added that the Central government should have announced its schemes to protect the people by stabilizing the economy.

Stalin has become one of the opposition leaders to criticize the absence of the economical announcements. Earlier on Tuesday, Former Union Finance Minister and Senior Congress leader Chidambaram asked "what was ‘new’ in PM’s new year message beyond lockdown". The former Union Minister has expressed disappointment that the poor had been left to fend for themselves for 21+19 days, including practically soliciting food. He stated that the government will not release either money or food even it has both.

By citing that the advice of Raghuram Rajan, Jean Dreze, Prabhat Patnaik, Abhijit Banerji had fallen on deaf ears, he said it was obvious that the livelihood of the poor, including their survival, is not among the priorities of the government. He further stated that the demand from the Chief Ministers for money had elicited no response and the Center hasn't added a rupee to the miserly package of March 25th, 2020.

In his address, Modi stated that the country will remain under strict restrictions till April 20th after which the decision of relaxing the lockdown would be taken based on the situation and he said that the Central government would be releasing the extensive guidelines on implementing the second spell of the lockdown on Wednesday.
