'Money first, humanity next' - See how a private hospital in MP treated the old man!

In a shocking and appalling incident amid the health care crisis, a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh has reportedly tied an elderly man to a bed after his family members didn't clear the payment on his medical bills.

The detention-like-treatment from the hospital has raged a huge controversy and drawn nationwide attention after the visuals of the elderly man sparked across the social media in which his legs and hands can be seen tied up to the cot as what it looks like the hospital has taken him under custody.

The incident has let Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan take a case under suo motu cognizance. By terming the incident as an extremely cruel behavior, the Chief Minister asserted that the strict action will be taken against the responsible. Former Chief Minister of the state and Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath had posted the video in his twitter showing the weakened elderly man being tied to the hospital bed.

Kamal Nath said that the behavior was inhumane treatment by the private hospital and urged the government to unleash stern action against the responsible. According to Kamal Nath, the daughter of the elderly man said that the hospital has held her father under hostage as they couldn't able to clear the due on his medical bills.

The family members alleged that the hospital hasn't provided him a proper food for about three to four days. According to the reports, the elderly man belongs to Ranayar village in Shajapur, Madhya Pradesh and he was admitted to the local private hospital five days ago after developing a severe stomach pain. At the time of admission, the private hospital had asked the family to deposit Rs 6000.

Later on Wednesday, they had asked for an additional deposit of Rs 5000 and after the family ran out of money amid the Coronavirus pandemic, they decided to discharge him on Friday. However, the hospital authorities barred the discharge and asked them to clear the due of Rs 11,270 failing which he won't be released from the hospital.

When the family members told the hospital about their financial situation, the authorities tied the elderly man to the hospital bed and demanded the family to settle the dues before taking him out of the hospital. The reports stated that after the custodian approach came to the revelation of the government, the district administration has launched the investigation into the matter and directed the chief health and medical officer to disclose the reports of the incident.

On Friday, the local people had recovered the man from the hospital. Amid the controversy, the hospital administration has disowned the accusations and claimed the patient was suffering from brain fever and he was always moving and with the view of administering the drugs easily, the authorities had tied him to the bed.
