More trouble for Rajesh Das...Check the latest action from TN Police against its former DGP!

Days after the then Special Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu (DGP) Rajesh Das was expelled from the post as the sequel of the shocking allegations of sexual assault, the Crime Branch of the CB-CID in Tamil Nadu has registered an FIR against him in connection to the case that was filed by a woman IPS officer by alleging that Rajesh Das had sexually harassed her in his vehicle.

The FIR was filed on Sunday under the grounds of outraging the modesty of a woman under the Indian Penal Code and also under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act. According to reports, the FIR has also mentioned Chengalpattu SP D Kannan under the grounds that he stopped the woman IPS officer, from moving her complaint, on the orders of Rajesh Das. Kannan had reportedly stopped the woman IPS officer at Chengalpattu tollgate from filing a complaint against Rajesh Das.

The CB-CID had registered the case against Rajesh Das a day after Tamil Nadu DGP JK Tripathy issued an order to the crime branch department to file a case and probe the matter. The case against Rajesh Das has been filed by the Villupuram CB-CID and ADSP Gomathi from the unit has been tasked to probe the case. Last week, Special DGP Rajesh Das was removed from the post and moved to the waiting list after what has shocked the entire police department and state.

A woman SP had given a complaint against Rajesh Das to DGP Tripathy and Home Secretary Prabhakar after being sexually harassed by Rajesh Das. It has been reported that Rajesh Das had forced the woman SP to enter his car when he was on the security detail of Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami when the latter had visited Perambalur and Trichy districts for the election campaign. Rajesh Das, who is the husband of former Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh, had forced the woman officer and harassed her in his car.

While some of the police officers had told the victim not to file a complaint against Rajesh Das, she went ahead with her decision and filed a complaint against Rajesh Das and as the sequel of the sickening development, he was removed from the post and put under waiting list. The sexual harassment case filed by an IPS Officer against the special DGP had shocked the state and it had drawn major flak against the state government with the opposition parties flaying the ruling regime that how it can assure the safety of a common woman if it has failed to assure the safety of an IPS Officer.

The government has surfaced with strong demands to take action against Rajesh Das following which the case has now gone to CB-CID. While the department had filed an FIR against Rajesh Das on Sunday, the Madras High Court has on Monday taken suo motu cognizance of the matter. In what has become another fresh trouble for Rajesh Das, the court had expressed shock over the unfolding of various efforts to stop the officer from filing a complaint. Earlier, the Home Secretary had installed a special team to investigate the matter.

Madras High Court Justice N Anand Venkatesh had expressed shock over allegations of the special DGP who has been accused of sexually harassing a woman IPS officer while another SP prevented her from lodging a complaint. The Justice asserted that he will monitor the probe. The reports say that the case has set a bad precedent for the Tamil Nadu police and it is the first time in recent years that the FIR has been filed against the Special Director General of Police under the grounds of a sexual assault case.
