Mysterious murder of a TN Trans woman: Will this action from police reveal the culprits?

Exactly a day after Coimbatore District Transgender Association President Sangeetha was found dead at her residence, the district police department has, on Thursday, formed three special teams to probe the mysterious death of the trans woman, who was popularly known across the state as an activist and entrepreneur. 

According to reports close to the developments, the district police department has installed three police teams to investigate the murder. The probe would be led by the Additional Commissioner of Police of the district and the teams include the senior police officials including the police inspector of Sai Baba Colony, Coimbatore where the residence of the trans woman is situated and where her body was recovered on Wednesday. 

The police officials connected to the investigation said that the probe would be of possible and different angles and they had interrogated the people close to the deceased trans woman and with whom she was in touch during the past week. By citing that they hadn't identified any culprits in connection to the murder, the officials asserted that they would soon zero down the suspects behind the crime. 

The officials further stated that they are checking the possibilities of enmity, rivalry, and personal threats against the victim and added that they had obtained the call records, bank details of the deceased activist, which had shocked the transgender community and people across and beyond the state. She was found dead at her residence in Coimbatore, and the police officials had on Wednesday recovered the body and sent for the autopsy for further investigations. 

According to reports, Sangeetha was not reachable since Sunday. With having no response from her for the past two days, some of the members of the association went to her residence in Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore on the morning hours of Wednesday to check her and when the members sensed a stench and creepy smell from the residence, they had alerted the local police on the development following which the police officials arrived at the spot. 

When the police officials stormed into her residence, they found her dead and recovered the body from the plastic drum, that was used to store water. The officials said that her body was wrapped in a blanket and concealed inside the drum at her residence. The reports say, the police officials said that they had found an injury on her neck region but it's yet to get conformity on whether any weapons were used. The police had sent the body to the government hospital for the autopsy and launched a probe to find the assailants. 

In September, Sangeetha had started an eatery named 'Trans Kitchen' in RS Puram, Coimbatore, and the eatery was completely run by the transpersons. She had primarily employed transgender people who lost their jobs in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions. As her death had shocked the state, transgender people and activists have been urging the police to punish the culprits.
