New details: Why AR Rahman's chaotic concert in Chennai has invited a police probe?

Legendary musician AR Rahman's concert in Chennai, that went chaotic, has invited a police probe in the wake of series of flawed arrangements from the organiser, ACTC events. The concert was held on Sunday - September 10 at Adityaram Palace City venue in Panaiyur on the East Coast Road (ECR), Chennai. The probe has been launched into the alleged mismanagement that sparked overcrowding and severe traffic congestion.

As Panaiyur falls under the jurisdiction of the Tambaram Commissionerate, the Tambaram police have initiated an investigation. With the allegations of several mismanagements, stampede-like situation at the venue, several injuries, and harassments on women, the concert had turned into nightmare for thousands of fans who burst out with anger and disappointments.

Several fans have alleged that though they possesed valid tickets, they weren't allowed to enter the venue and alleged that the tickets were oversold by the organisers. The disappointed fans called it as a scam and that their money must be refunded. In the midst of a response from the organiser and from AR Rahman that he would take the accountability of what had happened, Tamil Nadu's Director-General of Police Shankar Jiwal on Monday directed the Tambaram Police Commissioner to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.

The Tambaram Commissioner was instructed to probe overcrowding, traffic congestion, and also the overall arrangements made at the event. Tambaram Police Commissioner A Amalraj visited the venue and said that the police have commenced their inquiry. Speaking to The Indian Express, Amalraj said, "We saw several people complaining about the conduct of the event and how many of them, who had purchased tickets, were not allowed inside."

"We are carrying out an inquiry with the organisers to see why the ticket-holders were not accommodated. If the capacity is around 25,000, the organisers should have sold the tickets around 20,000 or closer to the capacity, and not exceeding 35,000 to 40,000",  the Commissioner stated and added that the lack of efficient parking arrangements were also among the major issues raised by the people who attended the concert.

On the allegations of harassment faced by women at the concert, Amalraj said that the police haven't received any such complaints yet and that action would be taken if any complaints are filed. Apologising for turning the concert into a nightmare, the organiser ACTC events wrote on social media, "Grateful to Chennai and the legendary AR Rahman sir! The incredible response, the overwhelming crowd made our show a massive success. Those who couldn't attend on overcrowding, our sincere apologies. We take full responsibility and accountable. We are with you."

Later, AR Rahman had broken his silence and assured the fans to share their grievances and that his team will respond to them. In the midst of being surfaced with disappointments from the fans, AR Rahman wrote on X, "Dearest Chennai Makkale, those of you who purchased tickets and weren't able to enter owing to unfortunate circumstances, please do share a copy of your ticket purchase to arr4chennai@btos.in along with your grievances. Our team will respond asap."
