A newly-married TN man was beaten up by his wife's family: See what happened?

In a shocking development, a newly-married man was allegedly beaten up by the family members of the bride in Tamil Nadu for marrying against their wishes, leaving the groom to get hospitalized along with his friends. 

After having been attacked by the wife's family members, the groom had approached the police station and filed a complaint against them. According to reports, the incident happened in Gobichettipalayam, Erode district in Tamil Nadu on Friday. The newly married couple, Ashok and Soundaranayaki, belong to different castes. 

They were working in the same private company in Erode and in a relationship for the past two years. They had decided to get married and as they belong to different castes, they tried to convince their family members only to meet failure as the bride's family was against the marriage on the grounds of caste. As the family members of the bride didn't pay heed to their wish to getting married, the couple has got married at the groom's residence on September 16. 

Following the marriage, which was against the wish of the bride's parents, the couple had approached the Gobichettipalayam All Women Police Station and pleaded for the protection and the couple had decided to stay at groom Ashok's home. However, on Friday, the bride's family had called her and said that her father was ill. 

Following the call, Soundaranayaki had gone to see her father along with Ashok, his brother Baranidharan, and his friend Surya. The local police had said that they reached her home to see her father. However, as soon as she reached, the family members had locked her up in the room following which her brother and four others had used casteist slurs against Ashok and his men and they started beating them with a cricket stump. 

The police further said that they kept attacking Ashok and his men and they also threatened to kill them. Following the attack, Ashok said they had locked his wife inside the room. The bride's family members had also tried to lock Ashok and his men. However, they had managed to escape and came to the Gobichettipalayam police station. 

Ashok said that he has been getting targeted as he belongs to a different caste. He had lodged a complaint with the police and they have been investigating the matter. According to reports, all three injured, including Ashok, are currently getting treated at the government hospital in Gobichettipalayam. The reports say Ashok belongs to the Mudaliar community while his wife Soundaranayaki belongs to the Kongu Vellalar community.
