No Apology! Rajini vs Periyarists...the stir goes to the next level!

'I won't apology' - this was the statement aired by Actor and Political hopeful Rajinikanth who avowed against the controversy which sprang around him over his recent remarks about Thanthai Periyar, the social activist and Dravidian leader who has been deeply respected by Tamil Nadu's Dravidian parties and outfits as the father and architect of the Dravidian ideology.

Despite being the superstar of Indian Cinema, his political avatar, and his stirring statements have been surrounded by the heat as he has been considered as the mouthpiece of the ruling Hindutva party as Rajini's every involvement, every speech, and every stance had majorly filled with the roots and noise of the Hindu nationalist party that had upheld the accusations levied against him by the state opposition parties.

Recently, on January 14th, the 50th anniversary of Thuglak Magazine had hosted Rajinikanth during which he spurred the agitation from the Dravidian parties and Periyar outfits. By highlighting Thuglak founder Cho Ramasamy's braveness towards journalism, Rajinikanth said that Cho Ramasamy was the only one who dared to cover up the story of Periyar's rally in 1971 which carried the undressed portraits of Lord Ram and Sita with a garland of the sandal. While most of the agencies stayed off from covering the rally, Cho Ramasamy had presumptuously covered the news for which the then state government led by Karunanidhi had seized his magazine and despite the suppression, Cho Ramasamy had distributed the magazines illegally.

Although Rajinikanth had claimed that he would not violate the protocol of the anniversary event that had the presence of Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, he took the podium and ignited another episode of controversy and the Periyar movements and the followers had accused that the actor had demeaned the Dravidian leader by airing the never happened incident. Some of the leaders had knocked the doors of the police station and urged to file a complaint against Rajinikanth under the grounds of promoting enmity between different groups while others had called on that they would siege Rajini's residence in Chennai unless he issues an apology.

The General Secretary of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam had threatened that the group would unleash protests against the actor on January 22nd if he fails to issue apology and repentance and that was certain to highlight the extent of the how his statement had erupted the heatwaves across the state.

Previously, Rajinikanth had observed unspoken to the media about the comments that birthed fresh allegations and controversies and he was even ignored the vast press meets and interviews after he announced his political interests in 2017 and unlike the past, Rajinikanth had called on the press to hold the press meet amidst the protests against the actor and in the press meet that lasted hardly for five minutes, Rajinikanth said that he won't apologize for his statement and stated that whatever he said was true and he stands by his statement. While addressing the reporters, he had displayed the news articles and clippings as the testament and justification on his statement against Periyar and stated that he would neither apologize nor express regret over his comments.

His press meet had further enhanced the words of war between the aisle. He produced the news articles that were printed in Hindu and Outlook and claimed that he didn't say anything out of imagination. He further added that the 1971 rally is not the incident to deny but the incident to forget.  This was Rajini's first direct response in the middle of the fierce protests by the outfit which blamed the superstar for uttering a blatant lie. On Friday, the protesters had burnt the effigies of the actor during which the police had detained 50 agitators.

His back to back heating comments have been staging a debate among the groups and unsurprisingly, Rajinikanth had got the back of BJP and the Hindutva leaders after the press meet as one of the BJP's leaders Subramaniya Swamy said that he is on Rajini's side and added that if the actor stays firm, he will back him in the courts. Thuglak's current Chief and BJP's aide Gurumuthy has asserted that Rajini's comments are the reflection of the spiritual politics and stated that Tamil Nadu should thank him.

The controversial and political episodes of Rajinikanth have been oiling the unrest between the Hindutva and Dravidian ideology and his yet another statement against the founder of the Dravidian movement had taken the stir and the uncertainty to the next level.
