In 'now' or 'never', Rajini chooses 'never'... but ADMK and BJP still hope the superstar can create an impact!

On December 12, 2020, Rajinikanth had celebrated his 70th birthday, and amid the rain of wishes and congratulations, the superstar cut his birthday cake that was baked with the words of 'Now or Never'. The photo of the superstar cutting the first-of-its-kind cake went viral across social media. He celebrated his 70th birthday after he announced his political entry by choosing 'Now' and vowed that it's time to change the fate of Tamil Nadu.

Two weeks later, Rajinikanth has chosen 'Never' by signaling that it's time to take care of his health. On Tuesday, the superstar actor has brought his decades-long political drama to a complete end after stating that he will not enter politics and will not start a political party. In what has become a shocking statement from Rajinikanth, as it has come two days ahead of when he said he would be announcing his political party. By issuing a three-page statement on Tuesday, Rajinikanth has written a conclusion for his political drama.

In his statement, Rajinikanth had expressed his inability to campaign and enter politics during the spread of the pandemic, after four members of the technical crew of his upcoming movie 'Annaatthe' had tested positive for the COVID-19 infection. He said, "I got COVID negative but I had a fluctuation in blood pressure. Medically, I shouldn't face fluctuation in blood pressure as it would adversely affect my transplanted kidney. So, as per doctors' advise, I was hospitalized for three days".

He penned, "I see this health complication as a warning given to me by God. It's impossible to secure a political uprising and a big victory by fully depending on news media and social media campaign after I start the political party. Those who have experience in politics won't deny this fact and I will have to go to the people for campaigning and meet thousands and lakhs of people. Just because people will question me after I gave my word that I'm entering politics, I don't wish to sacrifice my allies and friends. Forgive me because this decision will cause disappointment to those in Rajini Makkal Mandram and those who expected that I will enter politics".

He said, "I deeply regret to announce that I can't be able to launch the party and enter politics. Only I know the pain that I felt when I made this announcement. This announcement will disappoint the members of Rajini Makkal Mandram, fans, and people who expect that I will start a political party. Forgive me". "I'll try my best to do service for the people without entering electoral politics. I have never hesitated to speak the truth. Hence, I request my fans, Tamil people to accept my decision", the superstar added as he closed his political gates, two weeks after vowing to bring an honest, transparent, and casteless spiritual politics in the state.

While his sudden announcement had shocked his fans, it has stirred strong reactions from the political leaders in the state with many welcoming his decision while some had expressed disappointment. As Rajinikanth has chosen 'never', the ADMK and BJP parties still see a hope that the actor would create a political impact in the state. Speaking to a news agency, Tamil Nadu minister and senior ADMK leader Mafoi Pandiarajan said that Rajinikanth should back the ADMK party in the upcoming legislative elections.

Pandiarajan stated that Rajinikanth wished for MGR's rule in Tamil Nadu and such rule can be given by ADMK and Rajinikanth should support the party. Addressing another news agency, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Jayakumar said that he believes Rajinikanth will keep his support to the ADMK though he is not entering politics. The reports say ADMK has been strongly mulling to get the endorsement and support from the superstar in its bid to retain the power. On the other side, the ruling party has witnessed a rebel within its faction after another minister said that Rajinikanth's decision may not make an impact in the polls.

Tamil Nadu Minister Kadambur Raju said that Rajinikanth could have made an impact if he had started the party. The BJP has also expressed that Rajinikanth would create an impact. RSS BJP ideologue S Gurumurthy, who observes close ties with the national BJP leaders, revealed that Rajinikanth had spoken with him about his decision. Gurumurthy said Rajinikanth will make a political impact in Tamil Nadu like how he did in 1996, based on his assessment.

Taking to Twitter, Gurumurthy said, "After @rajinikanth health set back he told me about his decision. It was inevitable. But read the penultimate para of his statement saying without directly in politics he will serve the people of Tamil Nadu. In my assessment, he will make a political impact on TN. Like in 1996". As the ADMK and BJP still found hope in Rajinikanth's announcement even after he said he won't be entering electoral politics, his fans, and celebrities had welcomed his decision and expressed their wish to the actor to take care of his health.

Rajinikanth has now closed the gates by deciding not to enter politics due to his health condition. His announcement of not entering politics has come two days after he was discharged from the Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. He got discharged from the hospital on Sunday after getting treated for high blood pressure. Following discharge, the doctors' had advised the superstar to take complete bed rest for a week, maintain limited physician activity, avoid stress, and importantly, the doctors had advised him not to undertake activities that would put him at risk of contracting the COVID-19 viral infection. The hospital has issued advise by considering his health history, his age, renal transplantation, and suffering from hypertension. Rajinikanth has written a conclusion to his political drama by stating that his political entry will never happen.
