Jailer, the latest blockbuster starring Rajinikanth, has set the box office on fire with its phenomenal performance. The film, which released on August 10, has reportedly grossed over Rs 400 crore worldwide at the end of day 7, and is expected to have a strong hold in the second week as well. Jailer has not only become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023, but also the third highest-grossing Indian film of the year, behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Prabhas’ Adipurush.

Jailer is an action-packed entertainer that revolves around a prison warden who takes on a ruthless gangster. The film features explosive cameos from Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar and others. It also stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan and Nagendra Babu in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures.

The film has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, who have praised Rajinikanth’s charisma, Nelson’s direction, Anirudh Ravichander’s music and the thrilling action sequences. Jailer has also been appreciated for its humour and emotional moments, which balance the mass appeal of the film.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Jailer has crossed Rs 200 crore mark in India on Independence Day and is eyeing the Rs 400 crore mark internationally. The film has also surpassed the lifetime collections of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram in Tamil Nadu, becoming the highest-grossing film in the state. Jailer has also emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film at the USA premiere in 2023, beating Gadar 2 and OMG 2.

Jailer’s success has given a huge boost to the Tamil film industry, which was struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. The film has also revived the theatrical business across India, as multiplexes and single screens witnessed huge footfalls and occupancy rates.

The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and Producers Guild of India (PGI) issued a joint statement thanking the audience for their overwhelming response that gave a combined collection of more than Rs 390 crore over the weekend, including ‘Gadar 2’, ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Bhola Shankar’.

Jailer is expected to continue its winning streak at the box office in the coming days, as it faces minimal competition from other releases. The film has also generated a lot of buzz on social media platforms, where fans have been sharing their excitement and appreciation for Rajinikanth and his team. Jailer is undoubtedly a milestone in Rajinikanth’s illustrious career, and a testament to his unparalleled star power.
