Padma Shri Awardee Bombay Jayashri hospitalized after falling unconscious in UK ... Fans wish for speedy recovery

Renowned Carnatic vocalist and musician Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, who was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award this year, collapsed at a hotel in Liverpool on Friday due to a brain haemorrhage. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent a surgery that was reported to be successful. The music industry was left in shock on Friday when the shocking news emerged.

The unfortunate incident occurred when the veteran singer visited London to participate in a music tour at Tung Auditorium, Liverpool on March 24, 2023 evening, organised by Milap, the National Indian Arts Development Trust of the United Kingdom.

Sources close to the singer have revealed that she had complained of severe neck pain the previous night and did not join her team for breakfast and lunch on Friday. Later, she was found lying unconscious in her hotel room, and admitted to hospital.

According to family sources, emergency keyhole surgery was performed to prevent further damage. And the report added that her condition was not life-threatening, and surgery can remedy her health problems. As soon as her condition was stabilized, she will be flown back to Chennai, report says. 

Fans and well-wishers have been praying for her speedy recovery.  The singer, who has sung in multiple languages including Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi movies, known for her pleasing and soulful voice behind the tunes, popular for her collaborations with composer Haaris Jayaraj's Vennilave (Thuppakki), Suttum Vizhi (Ghajini), Vaseegara (Minnale), Ondra Renda (Kaakha Kaakha). Her contribution to the music industry has been immense, and she has been an inspiration to many aspiring singers.

Bombay Jayashri belongs to a family of musicians with rich lineage and represents the fourth generation of music practitioners in her family. She has been trained by legends like Lalgudi Jayaraman and T.R. Balamani. She has also received several awards and honours for her contributions to music, such as Sangeetha Choodamani, Kalaimaamani, Sangeetha Kalasarathy and recently, she was conferred with the Sangita Kalanidhi by Music Academy.
