In Pics: Che Guevara's daughter arrives in Chennai for the first time...Communist leaders bestow a rousing welcome!

For the first time, Aleida Guevara, the daughter of revolutionary socialist leader Che Guevara has arrived in Chennai on Tuesday - January 17. As it was a heartwarming moment for the Communist leaders and the followers of Che Guevara, they bestowed a rousing welcome to Aleida as she kickstarted a key part of her ongoing tour in India. 

62-year-old Aleida is also a human rights advocate in Cuba and she has planned to visit several key cities in India. On Tuesday, she arrived in Chennai from Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala, with her daughter Estefania Machin Guevara and they were accompanied by former Kerala Minister and Marxist Communist leader M A Baby. As the Guevaras came out of the airport, hundreds of people and Communist leaders received them.

Tamil Nadu Marxist Communist leaders including G Ramakrishnan, K Balakrishnan, TK Rangarajan, Samuel Raj, and the party's Chennai secretaries were given the Guevaras a rousing welcome. The Communist party, along with National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba, is organising a reception to Aleida Guevara and her daughter at Raja Annamalai Hall on Wednesday - January 18. 

The party has also invited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to take part in the event. After arriving in Chennai, Aleida had attended a discussion with the party leaders and on Wednesday, she will be visiting the Asian College of Journalism for an interaction. She will also be visiting the state headquarters of the Communist Party of India.

After completing her Chennai visit, Aleida will be arriving at Kolkata for the first time in 24 years. She will be staying at Kolkata for two days - on January 20 and 21. According to reports, the Communist part in West Bengal has organized a series of events to express solidarity with Cuba and to honour the Guevaras. Aleida will be participating at an interactive session at Jadavpur University and she will also be taking part in a cultural presentation at the open-air theatre.
