PM Modi is losing his popularity on the world stage...A global report reveals!

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has overtaken the leaders of the developed countries in the latest global approval rating, but his popularity on the world stage has been plummeting in recent years as a significant amount of Indians have dissented Modi's reign. The rating has come weeks after the release of some of the global reports that said Modi as one of the worst pandemic leaders.

According to the Morning Consult, a US-based global approval tracker, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approval ratings have dipped to 66% from the previous 82% in August 2019. His approval rating has begun to plunge since his government had revoked the special status of Article 370 from the semi-autonomic state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Though his approval is ahead of other global leaders, the sink of his popularity had disturbed him. The Morning Consult has shown PM Narendra Modi is ahead of other world leaders of 12 countries - the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, and Japan.

In a tweet, the tracking firm said, "Morning Consult, which tracks national ratings of the elected leaders of 13 countries, shows a 20-point slide over the past year in the proportion of Indians who approve of Mr Modi. Yet at 66% in early June, he still outperforms all the rest."  The approval rating was updated on Thursday and has a sample size of 2,126 adults in India, shows 66% approval for PM Modi while 28% of those surveyed disapproved of him.

While Modi is top of the table with an approval rating of 66%, he is followed by Italy's Mario Draghi with 65%, Mexico's Lopez Obrador with 63%, Australia's Scott Morrison with 54%, German's Angela Merkel with 53%, US President Joe Biden with 53%, and Canada's Justin Trudeau with 48%. The rating shows that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has got 44%, South Korea's Moon Jae-in has got 37%, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has got 36%.

The last three spots were filled by Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro, France's Emmanuel Macron, and Japan's Yoshihide Suga with 35%, 35%, and 29% respectively. As per the tracker in 2019, Modi's approval rating stood at 82% while the disapproval rating was at 11%. After he stirred protests through abrogating special status from Kashmir, his popularity had decreased and as the sequel of the election defeats in the state, his address to the economy, and his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic had further diminished his popularity.
