PM Narendra Modi remains the world's most popular leader: Here's what a global survey had to say!

A global survey that has focused on the popularity of the world leaders has said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains the world's most popular leader with the highest approval rating than any other head of state. Several prominent leaders had seen their approval rating plummeting and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was spotted at the bottom of the table, amid facing fire in his country over the alleged 'partygate' scandal.

Morning Consult, which is a US-based global leader approval tracking entity, has released the list of top leaders and their approval ratings among the citizens of their respective countries. The survey findings were unveiled by the tracking company on January 20 in which it has said that Narendra Modi has surpassed all the world leaders and ranked at the first spot with the highest approval rating.

Morning Consult has surveyed 13 world leaders and PM Modi has topped the list with a 71 per cent of approval rating from India's adult population. US President Joe Biden, Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau weren't made into the club of top five leaders with the highest approval rating and the survey has excluded certain prominent leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Following Modi, Mexican President Lopez Obrador has the second-highest approval rating with 66 per cent, while Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has ranked third with a 60 per cent of approval rating. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is fourth with a 48% rating, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is fifth with 44%. US President Joe Biden and Canada's Trudeau were placed at sixth and seventh spot respectively and with an equal approval rating of 43%.

Australia's Scott Morrison has secured the eighth rank with 41%, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is ranked ninth with 40% of approval rating while South Korea's President Moon Jae-in was placed at tenth rank with 38%. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron were spotted at the eleventh and twelfth rank respectively with 37 and 34 per cent of approval rating, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was ranked at the bottom of the table with 26 per cent of approval rating.

Morning Consult has also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also ranked top with the lowest approval rating of 21 per cent. In the last two years, PM Modi's approval rating had touched a high of 84 per cent on May 2, 2020. His approval rating was at the lowest on May 7, 2021, with 63 per cent during the peak of the second wave of the pandemic in the country. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is the most unpopular leader globally with a disapproval rating of 69 per cent.

US President Joe Biden's approval rating has fallen to its lowest during his presidency. He had an approval rating above 50 per cent in his first months in office and his popularity had begun plunging from August last year the downward trend was attributed to the surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths in the United States and his botched decision of withdrawing the US troops from Afghanistan. As per Morning Consult, "The latest approval ratings are based on data collected from January 13-19, 2022. Approval ratings are based on a seven-day moving average of adult residents in each country, with sample sizes varying by country."

Morning Consult, which is a global, privately-held data intelligence company established in 2014, largely relies on real-time polling data on political elections, elected officials, and voting issues to conduct its surveys. According to reports, it conducts more than 20,000 global interviews daily with the adult population. The surveys are done in each country by age, gender, religion, and education breakdowns based on the government sources.
