Political fight in DMK: A party man was brutally beaten by the fellow party member!

A 61-year-old DMK functionary was brutally attacked by the own party member in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu and the family of the injured alleged that he was attacked to annihilate his political growth and aspirations. The local police department had filed a case and tracing the DMK member who assailed the fellow functionary.

According to reports, 61-year-old Mariappan is a DMK functionary and native of Meenakshipuram in Tirunelveli. He runs a Cable TV and serves as the deputy organizer of the DMK's district-level art and literature wing. On September 11, he was brutally attacked by the unknown assailants at around 9.40 am when he was on the way to work.

After being attacked, he sustained severe injuries and he was rushed to Shifa Hospital in Tirunelveli town, where he has been getting treated. While he has been treated, his family member had approached the police station and filed a complaint in which three individuals were named, including a DMK party member.

Assailed DMK member Mariappan getting treated at the hospital

The reports say P Subramanian, the DMK's Thachanallur Zone Chairman, Chandran, and Paul Ganesh have been named in the complaint as the reason behind the attack. The family of the hospitalized member said that Mariappan has been attacked with the intent to stop his political growth and aspirations.

Speaking to a news agency, the brother of the assailed member said that Mariappan's rising popularity has been threatening Subramanian and his group who have been desired to have a stronghold in their area. The reports stated that of the three accused, two - Chandra and Paul Ganesh had acquired anticipatory bail, and the police department has been tracing and investigating to detain DMK member Subramanian and few others who have involvement in the case.

The police department has figured out two possible reasons behind the brutal attack, one being to thwart Mariappan's political aspirations ahead of the state elections and the other being the fight between the Cable TV business, that the hospitalized member runs in the area. Though the case has been filed, Mariappan's family alleges that it has been over ten days and the police haven't taken any action towards the case.

The police had filed an FIR under sections 120B - criminal conspiracy, 294 (b) - sings or utters any obscene words, 324 - causing hurt by dangerous weapons, and 506 - criminal intimidation of the Indian Penal Code.
