The stars of the upcoming Tamil epic Ponniyin Selvan 2 faced a Twitter glitch after they changed their names on the micro-blogging site to promote their film. Trisha Krishnan and Jayam Ravi, who play Kundavai and Arunmozhi Varman in the Mani Ratnam directorial, decided to adopt their character names on Twitter as part of the film’s promotion strategy. However, this move backfired as they lost their verified blue ticks due to Twitter’s new rules.

According to Twitter’s policy, changing one’s name or username may result in losing the blue badge if it implies a change of identity or impersonation. Trisha and Jayam Ravi were shocked to see their blue ticks disappear after they changed their names. Trisha quickly reverted to her original name, but she was not given back her blue tick. Jayam Ravi, on the other hand, retained his character name despite losing his verification.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the second and final part of Mani Ratnam’s ambitious adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s classic novel of the same name. The film boasts of a stellar cast that includes Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Parthiban and Lal. The film’s music is composed by AR Rahman.

The film is slated to release on April 28 and has been generating a lot of buzz among fans and critics alike. The film’s trailer, which was released on March 29th, showed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a powerful role as Nandini, the queen of Pazhuvoor who seeks revenge from the Cholas. The film also showcases the rise of Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) as Rajaraja I, the greatest ruler of the Chola dynasty.

The film’s team has been traveling across the country to promote the film in various cities. They recently arrived in Coimbatore on a private jet and posed for a group photo that went viral on social media.  Ponniyin Selvan 2 is expected to be a grand spectacle that will enthrall the audience with its stunning visuals, gripping story and stellar performances. The film is produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies and is one of the most expensive Tamil films ever made.
