Ponniyin Selvan caught into trouble: A Chennai-based lawyer files complaint against Mani Ratnam!

In the midst of a historical run in the theatres across and beyond the borders, acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' has caught into trouble where a Chennai-based advocate has approached the police and lodged a complaint against the director for a flawed depiction of a character and for distorting the history.

According to our sources, a Chennai-based advocate, Charles Alexander, has moved his complaint to the Chennai Police Commissioner. As a resident of Anna Nagar in the city, Alexander practices law at Madras High Court and in his complaint, he alleged that the role of Vanthiyathevan, played by actor Karthi, in Ponniyin Selvan was wrongly portrayed and that action must be taken against Mani Ratnam.

The lawyer said that the history has been distorted in Ponniyin Selvan and particularly, the role of Vandhiyathevan has been wrongly portrayed as if he is a romantic king, flirting with all women. By citing that Vandhiyathevan was a pivotal warrior of the Chola Dynasty, Alexander alleged Mani Ratnam has sent a wrong message to the people about Vandhiyathevan by wrongly portraying his character.

He further alleged that the director had also concealed the real history of the Chola dynasty that was stamped in the inscription in Thanjavur's Brihadeeswara Temple that was built by Raja Raja Cholan. Under these grounds, the lawyer has demanded the Chennai Police take action against Mani Ratnam. His complaint has come at a high time when the movie is recording a quintessential gross across the countries.
