Popular Singer, who sang 'Ponni Nadhi' along with A R Rahman, passes away at 49 in Chennai!

In a shocking piece of news, popular Tamil singer Bhakkiyaraj, who is better known by his stage name Bamba Bakya, has passed away at the age of 49 in Chennai due to illness. He was getting treated at a private hospital where he breathed his last on Thursday - September 1. His sudden demise has saddened the fans and fraternity, who have been paying tribute to the departed soul. 

Bakya is prominently known for his association with legendary music composer A R Rahman. Bakya sang for Rahman in a few hit Tamil tracks and his most recent musical contribution was in the song 'Ponni Nadhi' in Mani Ratnam's upcoming magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. While A R Rahman was the lead singer of Ponni Nadhi, Bakya sang the opening lyrics and took the viewers into the epic world of Ponniyin Selvan. 

Known for his unique voice, Bamba Bakya sang for A R Rahman in several superhit songs like 'Simtaangaran' from Vijay's Sarkar, 'Pullinangal' from Rajinikanth's 2.0, and 'Kalame Kalame' from Vijay's Bigil. All these songs were composed by Rahman and his frequent collaboration with Bakya shows how the Oscar-winning musician is fond of Bakya's phenomenal voice. 

Bakya's further collaboration with Rahman was in the movies 'Sarvam Thala Mayam' starred by GV Prakash Kumar and 'Iravin Nizhal' starred by Parthiban. Apart from the above-mentioned projects, Bakya has sung songs in the movies 'Anbarivu', 'Action', and 'Raatchasi'. Besides these, his song 'Raati' from his album received good recognition from the fans and music freaks. 

At the time when he was in the spotlight, his sudden demise saddened the Kollywood industry. According to reports, Bakya was rushed to a private hospital in Chennai during the night hours of September 1 after he complained of health discomfort. Amid the treatments, he passed away last night at the age of 49. The news of his demise has swiftly drawn attention with several stars paying tribute and remembering his contributions. 

Actor Karthi, who acted in Ponniyin Selvan, took to Twitter and wrote, "Really saddened by the sudden demise of Bamba Bakiya. I pray that his family and friends have the strength to bear this huge loss." Lyricist Vivek, who worked with Bakya in the movie Sarkar, wrote, "A great singer is no more. Pullinangal will always resonate in our ears." 

A R Rahman's daughter Khatija wrote, "Rest in peace brother. Can't believe you've passed away. Such a wonderful person and musician." Composer Santhosh Dayanidhi, who composed Bakya's album, took to Twitter and wrote, "Rest in peace brother Bamba Bakya. gone too soon...". Actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj wrote, "Loved his voice. Gone too soon. Rip Bamba Bakya anna."
