Popular Tamil director, known for directing Vijay, has died at the age of 54!

Kollywood director Babu Sivan, who was known for directing Actor Vijay in 'Vettaikaran', has passed away at the age of 54 on Wednesday at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. 

The film-maker has breathed his last due to liver and kidney ailments. According to reports, Babu Sivan was alone at his home on Sunday after his daughters had gone to attend the NEET exam, accompanied by his wife. To their shock, they had seen him in an unconscious state after they returned to the home following which the director was taken to a hospital in Tambaram. 

The director was later taken to another private hospital and then to the government hospital in the wake of the financial issues. He was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital to treat liver and kidney ailments. He had been given treatment but his health had got worsened when the doctors decided to give dialysis. Amid the treatment, he has breathed his last on Wednesday at the age of 54. 

Babu Sivan became popular after he directed 'Vettaikaran' which was acted by Vijay and Anushka and released in 2009. Before making debut as a director, Babu Sivan had worked as an assistant director for reputed director Dharani. He later wrote dialogues for the Tamil movie 'Kuruvi', which was acted by Vijay and Trisha. 

However, he hasn't seen any significant opportunity or a breakthrough in the silver screen, and in 2017, he was credited for the story discussion in 'Bairavaa', which was also acted by Vijay and Keerthy Suresh. With having no big projects on the fray, Babu Sivan went to television and started directing a Tamil serial. 

In 2019, he started directing 'Raasathi', with Devaiyani, Vichithra, and Baladhithya. The serial has been telecasted on Sun TV.  He was tested for COVID-19 during the hospitalization and the reports say he was tested negative for the viral infection. Babu Shivan was surviving by his wife and two daughters and his mortal remains will be kept at his house in Madambakkam, Chennai for paying homage. 

 

The fans of actor Vijay have been expressing their condolences to the family of the departed filmmaker. Reputed music director Vijay Antony, who worked with Babu Sivan in Vettaikaran, took to Twitter and said, "I am deeply saddened and shocked about the sudden demise of Vettaikaaran director Babu Sivan. He was a very simple man who gave me complete freedom to execute my ideas in Vettaikaaran. Condolences and strength to his family and friends".
