Postman D Sivan...How a common man from Tamil Nadu became a real hero?

In whatever profession you do or wherever you live, if you do with dedication and everlasting love and commitment, you will steal the show and become an inspiration for others and you can, if not inspiring others to lay down a new path, at least inspire them to follow the path that you have been. But, if you wish to follow Postmaster D Sivan's path, you must have the audacity to beat the odds, and of course the wild and dangerous animals.

You can ask what he has done other than delivery mails? For most of us, the existing barriers would keep disturbing us daily but Sivan has shown something through you can make such barriers as your foe. Postmaster Sivan's name and walk are familiar among the hilly roads of Coonoor in the Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu. For those living in the remote areas of Coonoor where mobile would hate to deliver messages, Sivan is their messenger.

Postman Sivan - as he has proudly been prefixed, has been, without hesitation, delivering letters to those living in the forest area in Coonoor for the past ten years. His day would be scheduled in a way that he would start at 10 am every day from the Hillgrove Post Office. He would walk for 15 kilometers daily to deliver letters, pensions for local people, and plantation workers living in the area where the system of on-vehicle delivery is still far.

This has been the routine for Sivan for the past decade and the barriers for him came through the wild animals as whenever he gets to woods, he would encounter and sometimes he was chased by wild elephants, gaurs, bears, and barricaded by the nature including the waterfalls and slipping muds. However, in the presence of all these barriers, he didn't stop..he has kept his routine, dedication, and commitment of delivering letters to the people who would hope for his message.

He walked 15 kilometers by not caring about these challenges as later, these wild animals had become good friends to him, as he shares about his journey to one of the media outlets. A bag of letters, close friends at the forest, and never giving up commitment where three important ingredients that now speak about his journey.

Sivan is currently in his 65 and recently retired from the post of Postman, keeping it prefixed before his name and leaving an inspirational journey and path to others on mastering the success in whatever job that you do. As part of the routine, he would have breakfast before leaving the post office with his bag of letters at 10 am and his next meal would be at 3 pm when he returns from his job, which would be an arduous journey for us.

In between, he would get a cup of black tea and keeps moving on.  Sivan initially worked as a stamp vendor for 25 years at the post office and then he was posted as the postman ten years ago. After being posted with the challenging job, he took it unhesitatingly and never lost his commitment for the past ten years, and additionally, he has never taken a leave in these years.

After the news of his retirement broke out, many higher authorities and netizens took to social media and praised his services. Supriya Sahu IAS took to Twitter and said "Postman D. Sivan walked 15 km every day through thick forests to deliver mail in inaccessible areas in Coonoor. Chased by wild elephants, bears, gaurs, crossing slippery streams&waterfalls he did his duty with utmost dedication for 30 years till he retired last week"

Vijayakumar IPS said "His role in nation-building is much appreciated. kudos to his commitment". Many other netizens have been extending their gratitude for his exemplary service. But for Sivan, he says 'he has done his job and admits that he has led a different life'. Indeed, different life of making friendship with nature and wild animals, an inspirational journey in the hard path, and apart from delivering letters, he delivered justice for his role and for people living in the remote areas. His decade-long service has shown nothing can stop you if you are willing to stay committed, dedicated to what you do.
