The race at its best: Top Bollywood couple joins the race to buy the new IPL team!

As the result day is inching closer, the race between the contenders to win the new IPL team gets stronger as the track has been accommodating prominent players who aim to get into the lucrative business of the wealthiest premier league. The IPL 2022 will invite a crucial overhaul in the total number of teams as the upcoming edition of the league would induct two new teams, making a total of ten teams. As IPL has been the most-watch cricket league, the race to acquire new IPL teams is getting intensified between the crorepatis.

According to reports, the results of who had won the bid to own the IPL team will be unveiled on October 25 in Dubai. In what has become an exciting piece of news for the Bollywood fans, top Bollywood couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have joined the race to win the IPL team in the upcoming edition. The two new teams will be sold by the BCCI and the Bollywood couple has made it onto the track to win the race and to own the IPL team.  

Joining the race to own the team are Adani Group, the RP-Sanjeev Goenka Group, and the US-based Glazer family, the owners of English Premier League giants Manchester United. The reports say that the BCCI is not interested to give ownership to an off-shore company and the Indian cricket body will be preferring to sell the team to the Indian buyers. The names of other bidders include Torrent Pharma and Aurobindo Pharma. 

It has been reported that a Singapore-based private equity firm and US-based venture capitals have also shown interest in acquiring the IPL team, besides Naveen Jindal and entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala who are also in the race to win the IPL team. Bollywood and IPL have been tightly glued with a great connection. While Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla continue to own the Kolkata Knight Riders, Bollywood actor Preity Zinta has stakes in Punjab Kings. 

Deepika and Ranveer have a close connection with sports. While Deepika's father Prakash Padukone is a former All England badminton champion, Ranveer has been involved with the English Premier League and is currently the brand ambassador of the world's most popular basketball league, the NBA. The results of who has won the new IPL teams will be declared on October 25, a day after the T20 World Cup battle between India and Pakistan. 

Winning bids could be anywhere between 375 to 425 million USD per team for a 10-year license. To put it out in the Indian money, BCCI will make around 3,000 to 3,500 crores per team. There will be an elimination round where all bids will be technically verified as per rules laid out by the BCCI and all successful bids will then be opened and the highest bidders will win the teams.
