Rahul Gandhi, the former MP of Wayanad, is all set to visit his erstwhile constituency in Kerala on Tuesday. This will be his first visit since he was disqualified as a parliamentarian by the Surat court over his citizenship row. The Congress leader has appealed against the decision and the hearing is scheduled for April 13.

Rahul Gandhi will be welcomed by a grand reception organized by the UDF district committee in Wayanad. He will participate in a public meeting and a roadshow in Kalpetta at 3.30PM, where he will address his voters and supporters. He will also be joined by state Congress president K Sudhakaran and other senior leaders of the party.

According to reports, Rahul Gandhi will hold a public rally and a roadshow during his visit to Wayanad in which huge numbers of Congress and United Democratic Front (UDF) workers are likely to participate. State Congress president K Sudhakaran, AICC members and KPCC leaders will also join the public programmes, sources claimed.

Hundreds of UDF activists from Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts, as well as delegates from Palakkad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, will participate in the public meeting and roadshow, according to KPCC working president T Siddique at a press conference. "The district committee of the UDF has made all preparations to welcome Rahul Gandhi and ensure the success of the event," Siddique said.

Rahul Gandhi's visit comes at a time when his MP office in Wayanad has been stripped of its free telephone and internet connections by BSNL, allegedly due to non-payment of bills. The Congress has termed this as a vindictive move by the central government to harass and humiliate Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi had last visited Wayanad in February, when he had slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged nexus with business tycoon Gautam Adani. He had also criticised the Centre's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and the farmers' protest.
