Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh has passed away at 64!

Rajya Sabha MP and former leader of Samajwadi party Amar Singh has passed away on Saturday at the age of 64 after battling his health-related ailments. 

The member of the Upper house of the Parliament was getting treated at a hospital in Singapore. He has gone to Singapore in March for surgery for kidney-related illnesses. According to the reports, the deceased leader had undergone a kidney transplant in 2011 and he was facing health issues for a long time. 

Amar Singh was one of the important leaders of the Samajwadi Party and a loyalist for the party's stalwart Mulayam Singh Yadav and he has enjoyed great influence in the party. However, In February 2010, Amar Singh and his supporter, Actor Jaya Prada were ousted from the party for the anti-party activities. 

At the time of exiting, he reiterated his admiration of the party's chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. In his note, Amar Singh said that he was blessed by Mulayam Singh and he has given him liberation. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1996 and after he was expelled from the Samajwadi Party in 2010, he was elected for the Rajya Sabha for the second time in 2016 as an independent member, with the support of Samajwadi Party. 

 

After the news of his demise broke out, condolences have been pouring in for the leader from across the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and said 'Amar Singh Ji was an energetic public figure. In the last few decades, he witnessed some of the major political developments from close quarters. He was known for his friendships across many spheres of life. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his friends & family. Om Shanti.'

 

President of India Ram Nath Kovind said that, 'Sad to hear about the demise of Rajya Sabha member Shri Amar Singh. He had a multidimensional personality and was a brilliant MP. My condolences to his family'. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad had paid their condolences to the deceased leader. 

 

Amar Singh was known to have developed strong ties with the leaders beyond the party lines. Hours before breathing his last, Amar Singh had posted messages on Twitter wishing people on Eid and paying his tributes to Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his 100th death anniversary.
