Reputed Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has passed away at the age of 53!

In a shocking development to the Indian cinema industry, reputed and well-renowned Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 53 leaving behind his wife and two sons.

According to the reports, one of the much notable and followed actors in the Bollywood got admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Kokilaben hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday evening due to colon infection. However, he had demised at the hospital after fighting a long battle against cancer. 

In March 2018, the deceased actor revealed that he has been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor, which is a rare form of cancer that can affect various parts of the body and he has been getting treated in and out of the country since then. He received treatments in London and returned to India last September after surgery and treatment in the British capital.

 

Known for his on-screen performances, he has got a respectable fan base and following in and beyond Bollywood and he had given some of the memorable performances in Piku, Maqbool, The Lunch Box, Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, Jurassic World, and Saat Khoon Maaf. He has acted at least 74 movies and finally, he acted in Angrezi Medium, which hit the big screens weeks before India was imposed with the nationwide lockdown.

Irrfan's friend and Piku director Shoojit Sircar tweeted " My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om Shanti. Irfaan Khan salute." Condolences have been pouring in as most of the celebrities are paying last tribute and respect to the deceased actor.

Khan was active since 1985 and was bestowed with the Padma Shri award, which is one of the highest civilian honors in India, in 2011. On Tuesday, his spokesperson confirmed that he had been admitted to the ICU at Kokilaben hospital after his health conditions deteriorated. Last Saturday, Irrfan's mother Saeeda Begum has passed away at 95 in Jaipur and he paid his last respects to his mother through video conference as he couldn't travel from Mumbai due to the lockdown. 

 

In a statement, Irrfan's family said that " it's saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away". In his fight against cancer in 2018, Khan had written that "I trust, I have surrendered". Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted that " just getting news of the passing of Irfaan Khan .. this is most disturbing and sad news...An incredible talent .. a gracious colleague .. a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema .. left us too soon .. creating a huge vacuum .. Prayers and duas"
