Reputed Tamil filmmaker and writer passed away! Lyricist Vairamuthu pays tribute

Reputed documentary filmmaker and Tamil writer Sa Kandasamy has passed away in Chennai on Friday at the age of 81. 

Known for his versatility, Kandasamy was widely popular for his novels and critic and accredited as one of the renowned documentary filmmakers. His novel 'Visaranai Commission' was conferred with the Sahitya Akademi award in 1998 for the best Tamil novel. 

One of his documentaries 'Kaval Deivangal' won the first prize at the Angino Film Festival that was held in Cyprus in 1989. His documentary was based on his studies on the south Indian terracotta. His novel 'Saayaavanam' has given him the reputed place in the Tamil Literature world. 

The deceased filmmaker also has made documentaries on the life stories of Jayakandhan, Asokamithran, and sculptor Dhanapal. He was also known for being keen on the cultural and social landscape of Tamil Nadu.

According to the reports, he was suffering from age-related ailments and he was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai. However, his health was deteriorating and he breathed his last around 7 am on Friday due to heart attack.

 

Kandasamy was surviving with his wife, two sons, and a daughter. His final rites will be taking place in the evening hours of Friday in Chennai. Upon knowing his demise, popular Tamil writer and lyricist Vairamuthu took to Twitter and paid his condolences.
