Reputed Tamil professor and ancestry writer Paramasivan has passed away at the age of 70 on Thursday in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu due to age-related ailments. He has been highly regarded for his work in Tamil ancestry and for his unparalleled contribution to the Tamil language. After his demise, many Tamil leaders and politicians have been paying their tributes and expressing their condolences to the family of the deceased.
Paramasivan was treating at the Government Hospital in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli and he breathed his last due to his age-related ailments and his demise had shocked the Tamil activists. Paramasivan was a pioneer in cultural research in Tamil Nadu and during his career that spanned for many decades, he had extensively carried out study and research on the culture and religions.
He has been better known for documenting the roots of Tamil culture and he had carried out research based on the Dravidian ideology. Besides known for his works towards Tamil, he also had authored books related to the ancestry of temples. His book about the research of Madurai Alagar temple is still been regarded as one of the celebrating books in Tamil and his works were deeply used towards the research of culture.
He also had worked as a Tamil professor in Madurai Thyagaraja College and Nellai Manonmaniam Sundranar University and during his teaching career, he had served as the head of the Tamil department at Manonmaniam Sundranar University. He also has authored reputed books like, 'Ariyapaddatha Tamilagam', 'Alagar Kovil', Paran, Samayam, Panppattu Asaivugal, Hindu Desiyam, Palayamkottai, and Ithuve Sananayagam.
He was one of the prominent researchers of Cultural anthropology in Tamil. Through his immense and unparalleled contribution to Tamil, he has earned a large reputation across and beyond life but he led a simple life and he had been committed to his work till the end. He was suffering from age-related ailments and recently got admitted to the government hospital in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli.
However, despite the efforts to save him, he had breathed his last on Thursday at the age of 70. According to reports, he had passed away at around 8 pm on Thursday. Paramasivan was born in Palayamkottai in 1950 and he learned Tamil at St.Xavier's College and Karaikudi Alagappa University. He started his career as a Tamil professor and he concentrated more on researching the culture and life of the downtrodden people and he had strongly worked towards documenting and to bring the uncovered side to the light.
After the news of his demise broke out, many notable people including Tamil writers and politicians are paying their tributes to the departed soul. Actor turned politician Kamal Haasan took to Twitter and shared his picture with the deceased Paramasivan. The actor wrote, "Tho. Paramasivan has passed away. I'm saddened. I'm eagerly waiting for another Tho. Paramasivan. This grief won't be suffixed in a Tweet". Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu, political leaders MK Stalin, Seeman, and Velmurugan had also paid tribute and expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased.
