The music maestro AR Rahman has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Captain Vijayakanth, who passed away on December 26, 2023, after a prolonged illness. The Oscar-winning composer took to social media to share his admiration for the former actor and politician, who was known for his generosity and social service.

In his post, Rahman recalled how Vijayakanth had fought for the rights of the film workers, ensuring that they received the same quality of food as the lead actors on the sets. He penned, "He fought and won that everyone should be served the same quality of food as the hero in the film industry. It is so moving that everyone is praising his philanthropy today.#RIPCaptainVijayakanth".

Rahman’s post has gone viral on the internet, with thousands of likes and comments from his followers. Many of them thanked him for expressing his respect and gratitude to Vijayakanth. Vijayakanth, who was fondly called Captain by his fans, had a remarkable career in both cinema and politics.

He acted in more than 150 films, mostly in the action genre, and became one of the most popular stars of Tamil cinema. He also founded the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party in 2005, and became the leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly in 2011.

He was known for his bold and outspoken views on various issues, such as corruption, communalism, and human rights. Vijayakanth’s demise has left a huge void in the hearts of his admirers, who will always remember him as a hero and a leader.
