Road to 500 crores...Here's the latest update on Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan' box office!

In what has become a quintessential run at the box office, Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' is reportedly close to crossing the Rs 500-crore mark in worldwide collection after successfully rocking the theatres. The iconic movie, which was released on September 30th, is currently in its second week of showings in theatres with a full house of watchers. 

Ponniyin Selvan broke all previous records at box office and according to reports, Ponniyin Selvan has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie. Within a short span of time, the movie has grossed Rs 100 crore. Popular entertainment tracker took to Twitter and stated a official box office report by writing "#ManiRatnam & #PS1 enters the haloed #USA 🇺🇸 box-office for Top 5 South Indian Films : 1. #Baahubali2 2. #RRRMovie 3. #KGFChapter2 4. #Baahubali 5. #PonniyinSelvan". 

In another tweet, the tracker wrote, "Ponniyin Selvan is the new all time highest grosser in USA box office, surpassing lifetime collections of 2.0 in 11 days to become #1 Tamil grosser in America." On Monday, Lyca Productions, which bankrolled Ponniyin Selvan, wrote, "Crossing Boundaries, Breaking Barriers. PS 1 is now the highest grossing Tamil movie in USA, Australia, UK, Singapore, and Malaysia!." 

In another tweet, Lyca Productions wrote, "A victory for the ages - An all time blockbuster. Thank you for all the love and support. Catch PS 1 in theaters near you." On October 7, the production house tweeted, "Success beyond boundaries! Thank you for this tremendous response." In the tweet, it shared that Ponniyin Selvan has gross over 300 crores worldwide." 

Ponniyin Selvan is of two parts and the first part was released on September 30 and the second part has been scheduled to hit the screens during Summer 2023. This multi-starrer is a tale of Cholas with leads - Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in key roles, and Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Lal, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, and Aishwarya Lekshmi in pivotal roles. With cinematography by Ravi Varman, music for the film was composed by legendary music director AR Rahman.
