The row of smuggling exotic species: Three detained at Chennai airport!

The Customs and Immigration department of the Chennai airport has, on Tuesday, smoked off the smuggling of the exotic species after they apprehended three people with the connection to the conspiracy.

The reports say that the officials have rescued the exotic species like Marmosets, tricolor squirrels, Tamarins, and Iguanas from the passenger who arrived at Chennai from Thailand's capital of Bangkok. It has been reported that the authorities have been alerted and stayed vigil over locating and detaining the smuggler based on the tip-off that the Chennai airport would be the passage for the smuggler along with the species.

After having been eyeing to nullify the conspiracy, they identified a man who was reportedly clearing the custom checks in a suspicious manner following which he was brought under the close watch. According to the Times of India, the suspected man had collected his baggage and hurried towards the exit during which he was barricaded by the authorities for interrogations.

Upon investigating, he was identified as Suresh, a 35-year-old and belong to Chennai and while the authorities sieved his baggage, they found four plastic baskets and a tiny cardboard box that contained the smuggled exotic species. He confessed to the authorities that he was given the bag by someone at the Bangkok airport with the directions of handing over to the unknown person outside the Chennai airport.

Based on his statement, the immigration officials had taken Suresh outside the airport during which a man, who approached Suresh to collect the baggage has been detained and the authorities stormed to the residence of the organizer in Chennai and the organized was the third one in the racket who has also been arrested.

After rescuing the species, the airport authorities had called on the Veterinary doctors stationed in Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chennai and the doctors revealed that three squirrels were dead and others remain healthy and these species were immediately deported back to Thailand as the passenger, who was detained, doesn't possess a proper and valid license to import the species to India.
