Senior Tamil Nadu Minister has been hospitalized in Chennai: What happened?

Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister and senior ADMK leader Duraikannu has been hospitalized after he had complained of chest pain and breathing difficulty on Tuesday while he was traveling to Salem to pay homage to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's mother, who passed away in the wee hours of Tuesday. 

According to reports, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami's mother has breathed her last in a private hospital in Salem at the age of 93 due to cardiac arrest. As the news had shocked the state, the Chief Minister had reached his hometown of Siluvampalayam, Salem by road to pay his last respects to his mother. 

As the last rites of the deceased had taken place on Tuesday, senior ministers and leaders from across the state had marched towards Salem to pay their tributes. State Agriculture Minister Duraikannu had started from Chennai to Salem to pay his last respect and condole the Chief Minister. 

The agriculture minister was on his way to reach Salem by road and at around 10 am on Tuesday, when his convoy was crossing Thindivanam, the minister had complained of breathing difficulty. After he developed discomfort to his health, he was immediately taken to the Villupuram Government Medical College and Hospital in Mudiyambakkam. 

He was taken to the government hospital for the immediate treatment and he was later brought to Chennai by road through the ambulance for higher treatment. According to reports, he has been getting treated at a private hospital in the city and he has been getting monitored by a team of doctors. The minister has been doing stable.

The 72-years-old politician is a native of Rajagiri in Thanjavur district and he was elected to the legislative assembly in 2006, 2011, and 2016.
