Setback for 'Irandam Kuthu': Why HC ordered to remove the teaser of upcoming Tamil movie?

In a massive setback even before the release, the upcoming Tamil movie 'Irandam Kuthu' has witnessed its teaser getting removed from the internet as the sequel of the order issued by the Madras High Court Madurai Bench on Thursday. The setback has come two days ahead of its release.

According to reports, the High Court has ordered to remove the teaser from the internet based on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The litigation was filed by Lakshmi, a resident of Madurai and in her petition, she said that the movie's promotional videos have highly objectionable content and the teaser is available for the public to view on the internet. The content is a threat to the safety of children given the current state where they have larger exposure to the internet and various platforms.

The petitioner stated that the movie's promotional videos should be banned under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and along with asking for the removal of the promotional videos, the petitioner had sought the directive from the High Court to ban the release of the movie.

The petition came to the hearing before the High Court bench comprised of Justices Kirubakaran and Pugalendhi on Thursday -November 12 and during the hearing, the bench was told that the Censor board had ordered 32 cuts in the movie and awarded it an 'A' certificate. However, the court had observed that the movie's promotional videos could increase crimes against women and children and the videos are available on the internet.

The High Court had then ordered to remove the teaser of the movie from the internet and it had issued notices to the Tamil Nadu's Home Secretary, Information Technology department secretary, Director General of Police, Censor Board Officer, and movie's director Santhosh P Jayakumar to file their responses towards the petition and adjourned the matter for further hearing on December 3.

Irandam Kuthu has been slated for release on November 14, during the Diwali festival and it would be one of the initial movies to hit the big screens after the resumption of theaters. The theaters in Tamil Nadu were resumed on November 10, after a seven-month shutdown. Irandam Kuthu is an adult horror comedy and is the sequence of the 2018 adult horror comedy 'Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kuthu'.

Irandam Kuthu's teaser was recently released and it caught up with a massive controversy for its content. Days after the release, it has now faced a setback after the High Court had ordered to remove the teaser. The movie is directed by Santhosh Jayakumar and he will also be acting in the movie and it has roped VJ Sha Ra, Daniel Pope, Akriti Singh, Meenal, and Motta Rajendran in important roles.
