Amma Unavagam is a state-owned low-cost eatery established by ADMK's J Jayalalithaa when she was ruling the state. The eatery has garnered massive reception from the people across the state as it had served food at a very low and affordable cost. Jayalalithaa's pilot project has been playing a vital role in alleviating hunger among the middle and low-class people and these canteens had served food at the same cost during the disastrous times from floods to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the project was a hit in Tamil Nadu, DMK President MK Stalin has announced in the party's manifesto for the assembly polls that the party will also establish a similar eatery under the name of late DMK President Karunanidhi.
