Shocker in Chennai: A 45-year-old man sets himself on fire in front of MK Stalin's residence!

In a shocking piece of news, a 45-year-old man has on Monday attempted self-immolation by setting himself on fire in front of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's residence in Chennai. The development had swiftly attracted attention from across the state and the security personnel stationed at Stalin's residence had rushed to him and extinguished the fire. The man was then rushed to the hospital for further treatments. The Chief Minister was not in the residence when the incident had happened. 

According to reports, 45-year-old Raj, who is a native of Kovilpatti, had on Monday come to Chief Minister MK Stalin's residence, which sits on Chittaranjan Road, Alwarpet in Chennai. As a high profile residence, it has summoned heavy security and surveillance as several police officers will guard the residence all time and on Monday, Raj had arrived in front of the Chief Minister's residence and from nowhere, he had suddenly doused himself with kerosene and set himself on fire.

After witnessing the shocking incident, the security officials at the entrance of the residence had acted swiftly and poured water and extinguished the fire. However, the man had suffered 30 per cent burns and was screaming over pain. He was immediately taken to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital and admitted for treatment. Later after the admission, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian had visited the man in the hospital. 

As a precautionary measure, traffic on the Chittaranjan Road junction was stopped for a short time and the police officials have been checking all the vehicles that are entering the junction. The man had said that he had attempted suicide after his nomination to contest in the local body polls was rejected. It has been reported that while during the preliminary investigation, the man has said that he has filed his nomination to contest in the upcoming local body polls in Tenkasi. However, he had said that some people had been intimidating him to withdraw his nomination following which he had decided to commit suicide before the Chief Minister's residence by setting himself on fire.
