Shocker in Chennai: Two women techies killed after a speeding car hit them!

In a shocking piece of news, two women techies in Chennai were killed after a speeding car collided with them. The women were aged 23 and the incident happened on Wednesday - September 14 near Navalur, on the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR). The women were working in HCL and while one of them died on the spot after the accident, the other one died the next day in the hospital. 

The victims were identified as R Lakshmi from Palakkad district in Kerala and S Lavanya from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, both the women were crossing the road on Wednesday night after returning from work and a car that was driving at high speed ran over them. Both of them had sustained severe injuries and when the car driver tried to escape the spot, he was caught by the people at the spot.

The driver was later handed over to the police and he was identified as 20-year-old Mothish Kumar. He lost control of the car due to which the accident had occurred and killed two women. Tambaram Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Kannan said that the car was speeding at 130 kmph when the accident happened. According to the police, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol after conducting a medical test on him. 

The police further said that Lakshmi died on the spot and Lavanya was rushed to the Royapettah Government Hospital. She was admitted in a critical condition and amid the treatments, she breathed her last on Thursday. Following the incident, a case has been registered by the Pallikaranai traffic police under sections 279 - rash driving, 338 - causing grievous hurt, and 304A - causing death by negligence of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
