In a shocking development, a newborn baby, which was declared dead, was found to be alive during the funeral. The baby has been getting treated at the Theni Government Medical College Hospital and the hospital has ordered a probe into the matter and to question the doctors and nurses who declared the baby dead.
According to reports, the doctors at the Theni Government Hospital had declared the newborn baby dead and the body was later taken for cremation. The grieving family had arranged for the funeral and hours later, the family had removed the wrapping cover on the baby for burial and found that the baby was breathing and alive.
After finding that the baby is alive, the family had rushed the baby for treatment and the infant is currently receiving treatment at Theni Government Medical College Hospital. Speaking to a Tamil news agency, the Theni Government Medical College Hospital Dean has said that a 700-gram baby was delivered and the baby was not breathing.
The doctors, who attended the mother, had handed over the baby to the relatives and the hospital had then received consent from the parents. The dean further said, "The relatives came back to the hospital and said the baby was moving. We checked again and the baby had a heartbeat. The infant was finding it difficult to breathe and we have provided oxygen."
The dean has added that an inquiry has been ordered to question the doctors and nurses who declared the baby dead. One of the relatives of the baby said that they came to the hospital since the water broke for the mother and she was just six months into her pregnancy. The hospital said that they couldn't save the baby but still operated on and declared the baby dead.
The relative further said that after declaring the baby dead, the hospital has got the signatures to complete the formalities and packed the baby in a bucket. The relatives had then taken the baby straight to the crematorium and taken the baby out of the bucket and removed the cover for burial. However, they had found the baby alive and rushed back to the hospital for treatment. Currently, the baby is getting treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.
