In a shocking piece of news, young and prominent table tennis player Vishwa Deenadayalan has passed away on Sunday at the age of 18 in a fatal road accident. A native of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Vishwa was on his way to Shillong, Meghalaya and his untimely demise has come ahead of his participation in a global tour and has left his family and the Indian table tennis fraternity in a distress.
Vishwa was pursuing his first-year bachelor's degree at Loyola College, Chennai and according to reports, he was on his way to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National and Inter-State Championship tournament. He was travelling in a car with his three teammates from Guwahati, Assam to Shillong. When their vehicle reached Shangbangla, a 12-wheel truck that came from the opposite direction had rammed the divider and hit their car.
Vishwa was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead and his three teammates - Ramesh Santosh Kumar, Abinash Prasannaji Srinivasan, and Kishore Kumar had suffered injuries and are getting treated. According to a release issued by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), the driver of the car had died on the spot while Vishwa Deenadayalan was taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The release further said, "A 12-wheel trailer, coming from the opposite direction, ploughed through the road divider and hit the taxi at Shangbangla, just after the Umliy check post, and plunged into the gorge." His three teammates were taken to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Shillong for further treatments. The federation has said that the team of doctors are attending to them and the trio has been doing stable.

The news of Deenadayalan's demise has caught national attention and several leaders and fraternities have been paying tribute to the departed soul as he was a promising player with a slew of national and international accolades. The 18-year-old player had bagged several titles and medals and he was preparing to represent India at the WTT Youth Contender at Linz, Austria, from April 27.
Vishwa had trained at Krishnaswamy TT Club in Anna Nagar and he had received commendations from India's legendary table tennis player, Padma Shri Sharath Kamal. Vishwa had won the Under-19 Boys title during the Dehradun National Ranking Tournament this January. Following his demise, the arrangements were made to transport his body to Chennai and his father and two of his family members had arrived in Guwahati.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had paid tribute to the deceased. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Saddened to learn that Tamil Nadu paddler, Deenadayalan Vishwa passed away after an accident in Ri Bhoi District while on his way to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship in our State." "With big dreams at such a young age, Deenadayalan had his whole life ahead of him. I extend my deepest condolences to his family. Have asked the team to extend all assistance to complete the necessary formalities. May his soul rest in peace", Sangma added.
Extending his condolence to the young paddler, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote, "Shocked beyond words to hear about the heartbreaking & untimely demise of our young, promising Table Tennis player Vishwa Deenadayalan. He was a legend-in-making and it pains me that he left us too soon. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends & sports fraternity."
