The Greater Chennai police have apprehended a 24-year-old man for killing his friend. The crime has happened last month and the accused had played a drama that his friend has died in a road accident. The chilling incident occurred after the quarrel that they picked up under the influence of alcohol.

According to reports, the police have arrested 24-year-old Karthik on Thursday in Pallikaranai on the charges of murdering his friend. Earlier after killing his friend, Karthik got panicked and in his complaint, he said that an unidentified vehicle had hit his friend Kumar (48) while they were crossing the road. Kumar had died on May 24 at the Government Royapettah hospital and after his demise, the police found it to be a case of murder as Karthik's drama of road accident didn't play well. 

Upon questioning, Karthik had admitted that he had killed his friend. He told the police that he and his friend Kumar were drinking liquor near a Tasmac outlet in Pallikaranai. They had picked up a quarrel during which Karthik had hit hard on Kumar's chest. Kumar fell to the ground and became unconscious. When Kumar didn't respond, Karthik has decided to play a road accident drama that he was hit by an unidentified vehicle. 

Karthik was a contract labourer with the Chennai Corporation and the police said that after his friend Kumar became unconscious, Karthik had called an ambulance and his friend was taken to the hospital under Karthik's claim that Kumar had suffered a road accident. Following the incident, the Pallikaranai traffic police had filed a hit-and-run case and launched a search for the unidentified vehicle. 

The officials had recovered the CCTV footage in the area as per Karthik's statement and came to know that no vehicle has passed during the time when Karthik said Kumar had suffered an accident. Shocked by the twist, the police had developed suspicion and questioned Karthik after which he had admitted to murdering his friend. 

A police officer has said that the victim (Kumar) didn't regain consciousness at the hospital, which helped Karthik to maintain his drama that the former had died in a road accident. Following Karthik's confession, a murder case has been booked against him and the police had arrested him on Thursday. He has been taken into custody for further interrogation.
