Shocking in Chennai: A BJP leader was killed by a gang in a bustling street...Here's what happened!

In a shocking piece of news, a BJP leader in Chennai was killed by a gang in a bustling street in the city in the evening hours of Tuesday - May 24. As the startling incident has been probed by the police, the BJP leaders including the state president Annamalai have been waging an attack on the DMK government by alleging that no one is safe in the state. The incident has become the talk of the town and the BJP has urged the police to arrest the assailants.

According to reports, the incident has happened around 7.30 pm in a street in Chintadripet. 30-year-old Balachander was serving as the Chennai central district secretary of the BJP's Scheduled Caste wing. He was at a shop situated in the street on Tuesday evening during which unidentified gang members had arrived at the spot, started attacking Balachander and hacked him to death. The gang of three men had later fled the spot.

Balachander was in the pool of blood and the passersby had informed the police that the BJP leader was brutally attacked. Based on the information, the local police had rushed to the spot and taken Balachander to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. However, the BJP leader was declared brought dead. The incident had drawn major attention and the crime scene has been barricaded and the police officials are being stationed as the city's law enforcement agency is probing the incident.

A senior police official at Chintadripet police station said, "The murder was reported from a street off the main road. It's too early for us to furnish more details. We are collecting information." The forensic team has also arrived at the spot and collected the evidence and the officials are also examining the CCTV footage in the area to nab the suspects. Reacting to the death of a BJP leader, Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai had slammed the ruling DMK government over the flawed law and order situation. He said that no one is safe in the state.

He further urged the police to immediately arrest the assailants responsible for the murder. In a social media post, Annamalai said, "The government is inactive and the police are of no use to the common man. The police must immediately find and arrest the killers." Several BJP cadres had held a protest in front of the hospital where his body was kept for an autopsy examination. BJP leaders like Karu Nagarajan and Vinoj P Selvam had met the family members of Balachander and expressed their condolences.

Addressing the media, Nagarajan has asked whether Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu or the capital of murder. He said, "Every day, there has been an incident like this taking place across the state. Is this the Dravidian model? Murder is taking place in front of the public and what kind of safety does a common man have here? Balachander was a young, dynamic leader of the BJP." Nagarajan has claimed, "He (Balachander) has questioned the malpractices in the area. He had lodged a complaint at the police station against a few people who collected mamool from shops. If the police had taken action on his complaint, this incident would have never happened."

SG Suryah, the state secretary of Tamil Nadu BJP, took to Twitter and wrote, "BJP SC Morcha Central Chennai District President Balachander is hacked to death in broad daylight today at Chennai. This is the 19th murder in the last 21 days just in Chennai. TN CM MK Stalin who holds Home Portfolio is busy watching his son's movie in theatre. Absolute lawlessness." Suryah had cited a recent event where Chief Minister MK Stalin had watched a special screening of his Udhayanidhi Stalin's move 'Nenjukku Needhi'.

On the other hand, while addressing the reporters on Tuesday, Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal had denied the claims that around 18 murders had happened in Chennai in the last 20 days. By further rebutting the reports that the law and order situation is deteriorating in the city, Jiwal has said that there has been a 25 per cent reduction in murder cases.
